New MAARC Club Classifieds

As some of you may be aware the old club website - mid-atlantic-aroc.org - is gone thanks mainly to domain name scalpers, but the new website mid-atlantic-aroc.com is being built and it will be better than ever!

So that being said, I just spent a rainy Saturday setting up some things and the first feature ready for primetime is the new club classifieds: The MAARCetplace

Those of you in the mid-atlantic region (NC/SC/VA, MD too) can go ahead and give it a try. It's free, open to members and non-members, easy to use and automated. This is meant to be a regional classifieds, but if you are outside of the mid-atlantic region and you have parts or whatnot that can be easily shipped - be our guest to submit your ads as well. You can attach a picture file to your ad, but please note that these are limited to 50KB files or a 640x480 pixel picture.

If you have any problems you can contact me at webmaster@mid-atlantic-aroc.com

Have fun!

Father's Day History

Father's Day History

The history of Father's Day is very interesting. The thought for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington. The idea of having the Father's Day came to the mind of Sonora Smart while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.

After the death of her mother, she along with her siblings was raised by her father, William Jackson Smart. Sonora wanted to tell her father how special he was. Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910.

The National Father's Day Committee was formed in New York City in 1926. A Joint Resolution of Congress recognized the Father's day in 1956 and in 1966 President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance of Father's Day to be held on the third Sunday of June. Thus, the Father's Day was born in memory and appreciation by a daughter who believed that her father and all other fathers should be honored with a special day.

What Makes A Dad

What Makes A Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

Daddy's Hands by Holly Dunn

Daddy's Hands by Holly Dunn
I remember daddy's hands folded silently in prayer
And reaching' out to hold me, when I had a nightmare
You could read quite a story in the callous' and lines
Years of work and worry had left their mark behind
I remember daddy's hands how they held my mama tight
And patted my back for something done right
There are things that I'd forgotten that I loved about the man
But I'll always remember the love in daddy's hands
Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was cryin'
Daddy's hands were hard as steel when I'd done wrong
Daddy's hands weren't always gentle but I've come to understand
There was always love in daddy's hands.
I remember daddy's hands working' 'til they bled
Sacrificed unselfishly just to keep us all fed
If I could do things over, I'd live my life again
And never take for granted the love in daddy's hands
