Hey Matt,
Any interest in a 00121 motor? I've had one sitting on my workbench for the last 10 years. I pulled it out of a '61 spider that I drove for almost 20 years. It had been installed by the previous owner sometime in the early '70's. I had planned to buy a car to go with the engine, but started my own business and that has consumed all my time (and money too)! It was a strong engine and has all the veloce parts, including the 5-speed trans, veloce distributor, 40DCOE's and manifolds.

Let me know if you're interested.

DF

The body work on my SS is nearly finished (I am so impressed by how good a job the fellow has done, but in truth he has been at it since 8/20/07, the date he finished the sills), so I am now in panic mode on the paint scheme. We will let the primer cure for a long time, but that still means the actual paint timing is around the corner. Any opinions on the following:

Interior paint: The upper inside door (just beneath the side windows) and the lower half of the dash need to be painted. They will be stripped and prepped beginning today. Is it more correct to match these areas to the exterior (or primary exterior) color?

Two-Tone Exterior: I am still thinking of a 2- (or even 3- ) tone exterior paint job. I've got a tremendously good painter (a dad on my soccer team) to do it, for free. All I have to pay for is the booth time and the paint/nozzles/cleaning-materials. Anyone see any multi-color paint jobs for the SS that were done in that era? How about script?

Oh, while I am at it, one other question:

My body guy couldn't help himself, and he removed the front and rear glass to do a thorough job on some spots. Sooooo, I now need a new headliner. Where can I get the same material or something close?

Ezpatari,

Headliner (or just material) can be had from Re-Originals though they take a while, which they said would be the case up front. Alfastop may carry it as well.

Regarding dash color, I think it depends on your choice of body color, your choice of interior color, the original color of the car and your long term plans for the car. There is a middle ground between these. If the car was originally red, and your paint scheme is going to have red in it, I'd use the original shade of red and paint the appropriate interior parts the original red. This way if in 10 years SS's are $150K and you decide to sell out, you can just paint the outside back to original and ask top-dollar.

Regarding paint schemes, I'd be tempted to let the above line of thinking inform my scheme choices. Use the original color as the basis for your 2 or 3 color scheme and paint sills and jambs and engine compartment this color so it's easy to go to stock if you decide to sell someday.

Regarding actual paint schemes, this picture has a kind of cool 2 tone going on.

SS Headliner

Call me crazy, but I got this email from IAP earlier this week/late last week advertising clearance items...I thought one of the items was for an SS headliner for something like $75? The description/part scheme wasn't super clear, but I re-read the list several times. It was in my hotmail account and I already deleted it, or I'd send you a link.

Hope I'm not sending you on a wild goose chase.

Thanks, Dan, but they did sell the two they had at the discounted price. The person did hint this is a recurring item... Anyone have any opinion on the Reoriginals headliner in the diamond pattern?

I have moved the documentation of my SS restoration (and the care of my other Sprints) to my blog in an effort to provide a more succinct presentation of the process. Don't worry, I'll still be here looking for answers to my dumb questions...

Check it out: giulietta sprints
