Wow, $14.6K for that? Amazing. People have more money than sense.

On the math of 91 cars in 84 calendar days: They probably had a 5 1/2 day factory schedule. But they also probably lost an average of one day to strikes, work stoppages, hangovers, Saint Day feasts, and material outages. So, the 91 cars were probably built in 48 actual work days, or about 1.68 cars per day. . .

Oh, I have a question. Since my painter is quite an artist, I am thinking of a three-color paint job for my SS: Red-white-and-green, but actually in the Basque flag colors not the Italian... (red tending to orange). Anyone have a photo of a 3-color paint job on an SS?

In addition to the above...

D'Amico and Tabucci in their serial number/year breakdown seem to indicate the bodies were finished nearly as randomly as engines were pulled and put in cars.

Heck, they could have stamped SS numbers on firewalls attached to floorpan/chassis at the Alfa factory before they ever sent them to Bertone for bodies.

Period pictures of the Bertone assembly line show Sprints, SS's and 2600's all shuffled together.

My car is 413 and the trim is all stamped 415. Oops. Oh well. I'm not going to put too much stock in numbering. On that note I am still looking for an 00120 engine.

A vacation here? Me? No, just been sidetracked by the unlooked for but not unappreciated appearance of 58 Sprint Veloce 6917 as seen elsewhere on the BB. For all my contortions to make the deal happen I have managed to keep working on the SS, though only a few small parts at a time. The following pictures prove that even 30 minutes a day can yield results if you stick to it and enough days go by. Latest excitements include finding the rare Veloce rear brake backing plates and emergency brake cable assembly, a perfect original horn button and serviceable fuse box cover. Floors from Wolf arrived last week. If I was looking for floors I could close my eyes and point the welding wand at and two hours later have perfect factory replica floors I'd be disappointed, but considering what I am starting with and not wanting to spend $3000 to get a set from Italy I am happy, now on to those welding lessons!

I guess this makes it about 50 hours spent, 950 to go.

Did I mention that I have discovered the secret to expedient restoration (or at least refinishing) of small parts? I have. A shop mate scored a huge blasting cabinet and 75 lbs of ~80 grit media later I am going through small painted parts at about 2 per day. A quick coating of acid etch primer followed by Epoxy appliance paint yields nice results. I wish I could get the whole car in there!

If you happen to have a match for either the window winder or inside door pull handle in comparable condition let me know.

Wonderful project! Nice to see progress towards what will be 'too much fun' !!
Would like to recomend Caswell's copy-cad plating kit. Used mine on several Alfa restos and the results are just perfect!

Funny you should mention it. I have been meaning to buy a CAD plating kit. The pile of stuff that is waiting for plating has gotten big. It can't be seen in the pictures but as I blast and paint the small parts, I blast and place the fasteners in an egg crate. Any comments on the durability of the results of the kit your using?

Durability is good, depending on how much handling/wear they get after installation.
First used the kit on my GTV in 2000 and items such as cam cover bolts needed to be redone last year. On some parts like the brake lines, I painted with clear acrylic after plating and they still look like new. The fun part is plating odd shaped or long parts. I used a long plastic pan to do the brake lines.
You can see in the pics that I put all of the hardware from an assembly in a ziploc bag and mark it's location. Really helps reassembly!

Er... sometimes you have to cut corners in order to not cut corners...

In other news I got a pair of 40DCOE2's for the car and cleaned and painted most of the drivers side front suspension.

55 hours down, 945 to go.

Did you find a manifold? I have a 1750 manifold with screw in thermostat... would look sort of correct.

PM me the particulars on the manifold, I may end up needing such a thing.

My current big want besides the 00120 engine is a 750 head, crank and valve cover for my Sprint Veloce, oh, and a pair of 40 DCO3's (yeah, I know).

Check out the wear on this lower A arm pivot. I think I need a new one. Anyone got a spare or two? Suspensions rebuilds are slow going, especially when everything was brush painted with some sort of rust inhibiting stuff that the blast media is powerless against.

57 hours down, 943 to go.
