Svz02348

All,

this is a significant chain of e-mails, so apologies if I missed out some information.

Does anyone know of some of the gaps in the history of the above car? I bought it not so long ago from GTA2 (Hi Tim, hope you are fine!), but had no time yet to get into the history hunt.

All I know is that it belonged to Theo Geither in 1960 in Germany, whom I had on the phone the other day, and who claimed to have bought it off Edgar Berney from CH; Apparently, they ended up in court because it was delivered damaged to Geither. Geither had the engine tuned (unfortunately no longer with the car) by Conrero, and also Berney's claim that it had been with Conrero beforehand was questionable, apparently. Geither tells me that there were at least two other SVZs in Germany at the time - the one from Herbert Schulze (German champion) that is now with Mr Rammensee, and another one with a Mr Baumann in Braunschweig.

Egbert Waskowitz found the bare shell of the car on a junk yard in Berlin in the mid 70s, and sold it on to Hans Rammensee, who himself still owns his SVZ today (the ex Herbert Schulze car). He send me a photocopy of the foto of the car with the front displaying a huge gap in the front, but apart from that it seemed undamaged. Incidentally Waskowitz told me that at that time he owned yet another SVZ, which was in better shape that 02348, but which he owned and sold. I.e. together with Rammensee's there was at least 3 cars in Germany.

Rammensee wanted it for spare parts (mostly the windshield) for his own SVZ and was also seriously disappointed when the windshield got lost during the transport from Berlin! The story after that is well documented with Uli Kaim buying the restoration project off Rammensee, finally completing it in the 80s, selling it off to Bart Baljon, etc. etc. etc.

Does anyone know what happened to the car between Geither's and Waskowitz' ownership? Any idea if Berney may have been the first owner or if there was previous ones?

regards

Tim

I'm still at the point that because so many of these cars have had so much restoration/recreation/modification work done over the years, which ones should we still consider real cars?

[quote=Joseph;309158]Peter. First of , Welcome to the AlfaBB forum.
about your observation. Do you have pictures of the car when it was in holland, since I only posted what was reply to me by the owner.
here is his email to me about that car # 01849

"Caro Giuseppe,I just come back from my Christmass holidays.TYo you all my answers.
the car was a sprint veloce the same Ada Pace i ,my car i think was probably in a race, and partialy destroy in the back and much in the front. The doors, the hood and the truck were replaced with normale parts. All the front was again destroied from the rust.In the last pictures i sent to you,you can see now the new front placed with an new old spare buy from Diego Carrara before he died some years ago by a great friend of mine who lives near Vicenza. The correct alluminium doors, truck, hood and bumpers will'be rebuilding from a famous vintage shop in Modena, called il lastraio.

The car is absolutely original, the Vin is AR1493E01849 and the engine block is AR1315*30046,in these days i restored (polished and repainted) also its own original alliminium and iron license plates (front and rear) TO 205398.

After his last publication, two years ago, a lot of new information is now available and it took some time to study the information from the AlfaBB. Here some remarks from my side.

post#71 #01849 SVZ of Ada Pace
The information about an unrestored Sprint is wrong. In march 2006 this car was for sale at Jan Steutel in Holland.I was interested in buying this car but it went to Italy. It is a Sprint Normale with chassis # 01840 and engine # 1821.
Joseph,

It took same time, but I have found some pictures of #01840

The green car is obviously a normale, so I assume it is 1840 and not 1849....or am I now totally confused?? If it is indeed a normale 1840, does it have the column shift? Does it have the early pull starter?

Giulietta Sprint #1849

Peter.
Thanks a million.
That is the picture that I saw last year and. I had a feeling it was the same . now I cannot say for sure if that is the car they have unless the green car on the transport is the one they talk about then it obviously is not what they say it is. But I think I will stay out of the debate since I have not see the car in question and do not want to be involve in contreversy.
I guess I am to honest and naive and believe what people are telling as truth.

1956 red sprint

Doc,
Does the shape where the back light goes a little big for the smal lights? it look like they are for the bigger tail light, unless it is me which I cannot see well anyway.

After further look and compare with mine. they are correct.

RED SPRINT, (Steutel) This is not the same as the green one which was also for sale on ebay last year. The restoration pictures belong to a different Sprint Veloce lightweight which was beautifully rebuilt. You can see the pictures if you click on "maart" and "April" in the margin. This car is now in Germany.

Looks like a European car to me. Most of the early US sprints I have seen have the same "football" tailights as the spider! I think the red car pictured should have the lights with the metal stripe. I have seen at least 5 different tailights on sprints, all proper, if you count the 101s....

Peter K,

Do my eyes deceive me, or does chassis #01840 appear to be wearing early Ti Super wheels? Let me know if the owner is known and wants to get rid of them ....

I agree about the wheels...but are we sure the green car is 1840? I'm interested in it's details. Can't quite make out the S/N. 99% sure the green car ISN'T 1849.

These wheels were only temporarily fitted to move the car. This green car was sold to Italy in March 2006.
