My new Alfa. A Junior Z!












I'm working on the mechanics before starting to fix the bodywork.
The brakes have been overhauled and now I have to start on the engine.

The engine looks good, it isn't frozen. It needs a new clutch MC.

The car came full of surprises! It has a 2000cc engine with an LSD diff and big brakes. It has a sump guard a box full of extra parts! It also has a pair of K&N air filters and yellow KONI rear shocks...

Unfortunantly it has a roof window (I don't know how you call it in english...).

I want to restore the car to original spec. I think the car was originaly red but I prefer "medium blue" AR328...

The bonnet has this funny pic painted on the top...

Can anyone post good pictures of their cars interior? my car has chromed bezel instruments. I think that all JZ came with black bezels right?

I also need to see the dash and console in detail so I can spot diferences.

Congratulations on the Jr Z. They are very fun cars and nice to work on. If you do it right, you will end up with a very collectible and enjoyable car for years to come. Mine is the blue one in the picture above.

All the Jr Zs I've seen have black bezels around the gauges, not chrome, but the factory may have used some chrome trim rings, you never know.

The console is a slightly modified GTV center console. You can start with one of those & add the brushed stainless trim.

"Roof Window" is pretty close, we call them "Sun Roofs", and I would remove it if I had the car.

Do you have all the interior parts and the rear bumper, the stainless trim around the plexis for the front? All this stuff is pretty much impossible to get. Any Zagato made specific body or interior parts are going to cost lots of money, and will be essentially almost impossible to find.

If I can offer advice, I would not do any mechanical things to the car until you get the bodywork done. You have a tough road ahead of you on the body, the mechanicals are easy to source and are fun to work on, the bodywork will take lots of time and money. No panels are available, so your body man will have to fix what you have. With a car like this I would figure out the original color and repaint it the same. The color code sticker is on the underside of the rear hatch, in the middle of the rear latch area, visible through one of the lightening holes. Let us know what it says & we can tell you what the color was from the factory.

I'm missing the stainless trim arround the front and the plexiglass and the original seats.
I have the rear bumper although it is in sorry rotten state...

The rest of the stuff I'm not sure. I'm still comparing photos to see...

I'm not very worried about the body because the guy that I usually go to fix my cars bodywork is very good. He fabricates door panels and sills by hand for the GT Bertone. I'm hopping that he can save the damage on the Zagato.

I have sent a mail to the Alfa Romeo Historic Archive and they said the original color is white AR014.

here are some photos of the interior of my car. The dash was upholstered by somebody and, because of that, it doesn't fit very well.

three questions about the interior:

- Is the rear view mirror the correct part?
- Are the door cards correct?
- Does this car have sun visors?

Yesterday I started the engine for the first time. It is fine, it just needs a fuel pump and carb tune up.

The plexi is really difficult to get. Sometimes people stumble upon NOS parts but I believe the community here in the Netherlands have a solution to the problem, although it isn't cheap.

If I were you, I'd shoot an email to zagato (at) alfaclub.nl. This is the addres for the Junior Z register and the chairman is called Theo Jacobs. They are quite a together group of enthusiasts (and quite a big one at that) so might be able to help.

To your questions:

Mirror looks original (Should have the interior light integrated in it)

Door panels are not original, arm rest does not look original, strip on top should be stainless steel finish. Window winder and door release look original. I atached a somewhat bad pic of an original door panel. You also spot the original carpets (With the Alfa and Zagato logo)

Yes, I believe the car has sun visors (mine has) though I am not sure if this a a Zagato special or standard Giulia stuff

getting the correct, working seats might also be a major problem.

I think my door arm rest are original. I've seen photos of similar on the net. My car is a 1300cc and the arm rest on the 1600cc are diferent (similar to the giulia range).

My mirror doesn't have an integrated light. Normaly mirrors with light are from FIAT. My mirror looks like a FIAT part but without the light.

Hello again,

Just posting an update of the restoration of the JZ.

Just took out the seats. The floor was full of tree leaves and nuts below the seats



After I removed the red carpet I found remains of the original rubber mats. Unfortunantly they were cracked and incomplete.



These are the seats out of the car. I will keep them for future projects. While I'm searching for original seats the car will make do with a pair of GTV2000 seats...

Searching for some info on some parts:

What kind of steel wheel is this? I've already found some photos of GTA Junior wearing them instead of the Campy mag ones.

They have that sort of "cup" in the center. I never found one of these.

Other part:

Where can I find the rubber piece of the rear bumper?

Another one:

The car is missing the outer chrome trim. Is this easy to find?

FYI: Häckner in Germany sells the rubber parts for the rear bumpers and maybe some other things you might need (such as door skins). See here.
