I was curious if there was a fullsize car kit of the tipo 33. I know they make some pretty exotic car kits. This car is screaming to be done.

I think we all agree that the 33 would be a great 'kit-car'. But nobody seems to be making one right now. I think that it would be pretty easy to do (as kit cars go anyway) if you stuck a 3.0 Alfa V6 and transaxle from a 164 donor car.

Cheers,

yeah if I was a millionaire I would probably buy this T33 Stradale over a 250gto (although that car is worth like 5-10million versus this car at only 750k), although I would love to buy a TZ (those are like in the millions range too hu?) Realistically though most of us can own something that is very close to these exotics, we can all own a Montreal for only 25,000 in amazing condition, that is about the price you would pay for a newer Mustang GT or Camaro SS, I mean seriously!f

Actually there have been a few TZ-2 Replicas, here is a fiberglass one: http://www.americandreamcars.com/alfatzreplica.htm and I have seen an alumanim alloy body one as well selling on ebay, I think it sold for like 100k... this might have been it, but I doubt it: http://ep.com/js/mi/c2914/1653183.html

tipo 33 drawings

is there body drawing of the car? If there were good drawings you could make a fiberglass body.

That is the same car that is at my friends shop. It looks good (i would get one), but there are minor details that that tell you that this is a replica.

How much would it cost to build either a TZ-2 or a 33 Stradale Replica? and how much more is it to build it out of alumanim vs. fiberglass?

I just realized that if you did want a full Tipo 33 Stradale replica you would want it mid-engined... therefore you would have to use a mid-engined car chassis to put the body kit on... you would also want the back to show the engine and headers through the window...

No Daniel, that isn't necessarily true! In fact, you could easily mount a 164 engine and drivetrain into a mid-engined chassis (or sub-frame).

In fact, there is a Lancia Stratos replica (by Hawk motors) built in the UK that offers the option of a 164 3.0L engine and transaxle for its kit car.

I think that part would be pretty easy!

If you had the body, it would be easier to build a tubular spaceframe to fit the shell rather than building the body to fit an available floorpan.

Drop in that Ebay provided Montreal engine and at least the spectator view thru the side glass would be close to accurate.

Of course the complete V6 and transaxle from a 164 would readily convert to a mid engined setup. I know of a few mid engined racecars using the Alfasud engine and gearbox to drive the rear wheels which is a similar setup.

The Alfasud Sprint based prototype which spawned the Giacottolo in Australia had an Alfa V6 and transaxle mounted amidships, and IIRC the engine was mounted longitudinally. The deal with Alfa fell thru so the cars ended up using Holden 5L V8s

In The Alfa Romeo Owners Bible it says that the only other mid-engined road going alfa besides the Tipo 33 Stradale was a 33 from the 80s that was a mid-engined 2-seater with amazing recaro leather seats and RWD... does anyone know how many of those were made? what they look like on the extirior? I have only seen a picture of the interior from the book...

Giocattolo

GTVMAN,

Go here and all will be revealed:

There is also a link to the Alfasud Sprint 6C prototype in the first paragraph.

Cool, thanks, I like the way the Giocattolo looks a little better than the Sprint 6V... I love the rear end of the Giocattolo and the interior is way more sophisticated... although I gotta admit those beautifu Recaro Leather Seats in the Sprint 6V are just awesome... though neither the Sprint 6V or Giocattolo front ends look aesthetically pleasing to me... either way they would have both been awesome cars with near 50/50 weigh distribution because of the mid-engine RWD layout...

I find the issue of 're-creations' or 'component' cars very interesting. With all the Alfas out there where the body shells are past saving but the wonderful aluminum and running gear is very salvagable wouldnt it be nice to have a frame/body package that you could bolt on the good stuff and create a new car.

Are there any other Alfa based 'kit cars' or 're-creation cars' that anyone knows about?

I am in Italy now but when I was in the States I kept hearing about a few shops here that were putting out a few fakes. I dont mind that if they are known fakes. Does anyone have any names or numbers of the builders that I could try to track down over here?

I have just enough room left for a nice TZ2 in my garage.

The brits are kit car crazy but nothing Alfa based. As much as I love Cobras....I dont want one

cont.

Some of the Ferrari based re-creations are fantastic. Drivers that you can afford to drive and showcase fantastic mechanicals. Why not Alfas. I still think the clean and polished Alfa engine is a real beauty.
