Good deal, Fred.
Suppose when you get done, it will look better than this 1600Z????

Rust prevention
Hello Fred,
While you are at it, reach with your hand into the three holes above the radiator inlet in the centre of the nose of the car. Check the space forward and backwards for rust or missing paint there.
Ciao, Olaf

Thanks for the idea Olaf. I checked and it's all good. Thanks to the large amount of extra rust proofing the last owner did. Under the car is all sprayed with black undercoating, inside all the body cavities (and there are many on the Z!) a spray was shot inside.

Thanks for the detailed picks. I think I asked this question before but am unsure if I ever got an answer: What piece goes into the channel just under the headlights (See pics in post one: Channel to the right and left in the headlight compartment)?
Is it the metal plate with the two cut outs on the pic with the bumper brackets?
I do not have these pieces on my car - probably got lost. Anybody got spares?
Mike

Hello Mike,
There is a sort of separation plate that goes in the slots on either side just beneath the headlights and above the indicatorlights. A lot of JZ´s do not carry those plates anymore because the were left out by previous owners.
Fred still has them with the car! Cool!!
Ciao, Olaf

Yes. The short vertical piece points downwards.

Not me unfortunately but they shouldn't be too hard to replicate.

Interesting. I would be interested in making a replica - Good metal fabricators are arond here in SoCal ... If somebody cars to let go of a set to make it right.
I also assume that these plates push the plexi out so it is hold better in place against the stainless surround.

You can buy the plexiglass and the trim at AFRA. Not cheap but available.

I'll consider it... just afraid that the originals might get lost in the mail or so...

Not quite... although many owners put a rubber profile on the leading edge to make it work that way. If you put too much pressure against the plexi, it will push the bottom part of the surround off its, somewhat clumsy, mountings.

BTW, nice job Fred!
It is these, seamingly unimportant, details that make a car truely stand out!
Compliments!

Jack, next time when I'm at the Seaghuys (installing the engine of 488 ) I'll make a template. With enough info for a sheet metal man to make a set.

I don't know if Mike has that much patience...
On the other hand... CC just relayed that she is more than willing to unlock the Saeghuys for you on Saturday...

Sorry Jack, next Saturday I'll either be covered in dust sanding fenders or installing/fighting with a set of wishbones of the 155.

Go for the dust!
I'll try to think of your efforts on Saturday...
I presume you are also missing these separators?
@ Mike: Would that work for you?
