SZ in Japan
I do not know how many of you have an interest in SZs, however this SZ in Japan (see link below) is a bit of a mystery. A few details in the photos appear to be off and I was wondering if any of you could shed any light on the subject. Thanks, George

There are almost as many fake SZs and TZs as real cars. I don't personally know the car pictured, but it looks like a fake to me...

Thanks Stu, I have a small list of fake SZ Alfas that have come to market in the last few years. Sad state of affairs but it seems that in recent times more than half a dozen fakes have come to auction or other public market and perhaps only one or two real cars. One should do a very careful check before buying a wide number of special cars including the one advertised. I agree with your conclusion. - George

The problem is that some fakes are so good that it has become almost impossible to tell without hours of physical inspection. There are just too many things that look wrong to me about this particular car.

I am surprised that it is being sold in a regional venue. From the photos (which are very limited) a lot of the car looks pretty good to me. The grills are not right and the body cutouts or recesses for the headlights have a sharper edge than they should. Those could be the result of a poor repair from a collision. The gap between the bottom of the rear window and top of trunk is too wide and the radius of the trunk corners at the top are too tight. This seems like a greater concern and would not be the result of poor restoration. It has to be a fake. I'd like to know what chassis number it is being represented as. - George

rogerspeed,
Thank you for the excellent translation !! Those on-line translators are sometimes useless... I laughed really, really hard reading the translation (I'm originally from Japan). If anybody is in need of translation of anything in Japanese to English (or the other way), just let me know and I will take care of that for you (being a graduate student, I have more free time than I thought)!

It appears that the ad has been reposted with the prices adjusted to starting price at 13,800,000 and desired price at 14,800,000 (or $128,000 US). I still think it is a fake, too much looks wrong. - George
