That is fantastic good work, Don! Thank you for sharing your findings.

For those in North America, J.W. Winco in Wisconsin has steel with black oxide finish for $0.71 each or stainless for $2.30 each (2-3 week lead time if out of stock), and Maryland Metrics can get brass at $1.58 each (ask for John in sales, and tell him to look up the "Jason" file). I didn't look for zinc-coated since Don will have a tremendous supply to share (wink).

you can buy a similar nut in Stainless steel, galvanised or yellow cupper
The DIN number is 466 and than you get a nut that looks like this
Attachment 153894
I can order them down the street at our local Fabory shop.
Stainless will cost me 2,75 Euro each, excl VAT with a minimum of 25.
Galvanized ones 0,63 Euro each, excl VAT with a minimum of 50.
This is for M4 nuts. Delivery time app. 3 days.
I'm thinking of ordering a box of galvanized ones, but than I'm stuck with 46 nuts which I'll never use again.

Don
Hello Don,

Great thing! I would like to purchase 4 from you as a back up for the ones on the car now. Galvanized ones will do fine.

Ciao, Olaf

So who told you that these nuts are hard to come by?

There are more of these nuts living in you car, the speedo and rev counter also have a similar nut on the back but, as you would expect, these are completely different. M5 nuts with a smaller diameter. As you can see, one has been replaced by a normal nut.

Back to the matter of the seal or not to seal...

Originally, there were no seals at all in this area. Not on the stainless steel frames, not on the body and not on the horizontal "plate" above the indicator.

Yes, the plexiglass shields do foul up quickly because of that and it is an absolute pain to clean them.

Looking it up in the parts list, there are also no seals shown:

Also not in the body parts section of the list where basically only the sheet metal is shown.

Olaf,
They are not going anywhere, they are save in the box and I’ll keep them in my car so the next time we meet, they are yours, if you want them sooner, I can mail them but you need to give me you address.
A the moment I have more than enough, 1 set is on my car, I've send some to the States and I might even surprise Jack with 2 for his blue JZ (but at the rate he is resorting the Zagato, it’s not likely that he needs them this or the next decade).

Don

Mille grazie, Don -
Your generosity is to be commended. Now some of the west coast US Jr. Z's will have some shiny new nuts to display!!
