This is an invaluable resource for any potential Montreal owner. The reason I mention this is because I know that one of the forum members has inspected the car and would probably be happy to share his thoughts with you. Plus you can source parts, info and Montreal owners near you.

alfamontreal : Alfa Romeo Montreal

Hope this helps

Did you ever get to see it?

Joe,

Nope. Had an appointment and the ticket in place but the Seller cancelled our appointment approx 48 hours before and i never heard from him again. He is still advertising the car so bit of a strange situation.

Any more info on this car? It's still on the market, & I have a customer who is interested.

One of the members on the Yahoo Montreal group allegedly went to inspect the car, but I haven't seen his impressions, nor have I gotten a way to contact him.

I saw that too. A number of people mentioned that he inspected the car, but no one will say anything specific. I don't know what the big secret is, but I figure there's got to be a reason why such a seemingly nice car at such a relatively low price (& a 3.0 to boot) has been on the market for such a long time.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Why should such a good looking car still be on the market when so many people are chasing good LHD cars, both in Europe and in the States?
From the feedback I've heard, the car needs work - both mechanical and bodywork and prospective owners seem to have had a REAL nightmare trying to set up appointments even to see the car. I know one owner here who needed the determination of a pitbull even to see the car, after having several appointments cancelled.

My advice would be, even with the strength of the dollar, this might not be the car to plan a UK trip around.

More telling to me is that the guy who saw it is nowhere to be found AND nobody will say what it is he saw!

Shame, though. I was hoping to take a look-see on my next trip to the UK.

The ad claims somewhat dubiously that the 3-litre V8 was factory fitted in 1971, but Autodelta didn't produce the 3-litre version until the spring of 1972 at the earliest (according to Bruce Taylor: Alfa Romeo Montreal Website Main Sub-Frame).

If the 2995 ccm unit was indeed factory fitted (although later than 1971), this Montreal could be fitted with the rare, hybrid 33 Stradale/Montreal Autodelta V8. I doubt it, but who knows. I would also like to know what the "confirmation document from Fiat U.K." says with regard to the engine and chassis number combo.

In any case: I bought a Montreal that hadn't run for five years, and that was bad enough. Imagine one that's been in a museum for ten ...

Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread, but the same car is now for sale again: Alfa Romeo Montreal V8 3 Litre Coupe for sale, classic cars for sale uk (Car: 56911)

This time the price is 11.500£, and I've exchanged a couple of emails with the vendor - everything seems normal, the car is supposedly good but not perfect, and the vendor wrote he drove it around 100 miles a week. But during my research on the car (I am quite suspicious when anything regarding classic cars on the internet sound too good) your thread turned up, and I would of course like to know whether any new information regarding the car has turned up.

Thanks in advance.
