I used to own the Ponder 6C 2300. It was pretty on the outside but if you looked closely anywhere it was an obvious total fake made up of nothing more than a total bitsa engine and gearbox, part of an original Alfa frame and front and rear suspension. Everything else dated from a 1988 new construction using the above bits and pieces as a starting point.
I owned it at $50K and struggled for two years to sell it for $65K in the early 90s. It doubled in value every time it traded thereafter. At the price it sold for at the Ponder sale, it brought more money in my eyes than what the real car would have been worth.
