Any other interesting items in Padova?
Unfortunately I could not make it, missed the last three years in Imola and Padova, maybe next year.

The car is advertised as a 1944 6C2500 Sport on Jan Steutel's website
see the atached link with the details:

Alfa Romeo 6C2500 Sport; 1944 | Garage Steutel, Almkerk

Alfa Romeo 6C2500 Sport; 1944Pinnin Farina, 915208, complete and original condition, early history unknown.

Regards,

Jelle

I saw the car on saturday, but did not study it in detail, nor did I talk to Steutel (there were a lot of people around it). It looks great, and just wish I had money to buy it.

I read that a lot of Alfas built in 1945-6 had a pre-war chassis ... is this just in terms of the chassis number allocated or were these really built on platforms constructed in 1939/40?

Interesting photos. I saw a very similar car featured in an article in this month's Classic & Sportscar, relating to a new exhibition (and associated book) of some 2,300 photographs discovered two years ago in Italy, which had been taken by Tazio Nuvolari and forgotten ever since. I'm sure there will be some chat on here about this book in due course ....

But anyway, what's the deal with the eagle and swastika stamped on the chassis plate?

First owner german

The reason for the swastika and eagle is explained in "Alfa Romeo 6C 2500" by Angelo Tito Anselmi:

Telaio(chassis) 915.208
Motore 920.008
Appront. del telaio(build started?) 12.04.1944
Consegna vettura(delivery date?) 16.04.1945
Carrozzeria: Pininfarina cabriolet
Primo acquirente(first owner): Oberkommando des Heeres

At least 40 "6C2500 Sport" cars had german first owners, like "Von Carnap", "Deutsche Wehrmacht", "Sonderbeauftragter OKH, Como(Oberkommando des Heeres) and so on. The first of these aprox. 40 cars, chassis number 915.119, a Touring bodied cabriolet was delivered to Von Carnap 3. february 1943.
A quick glance in the list shows 915.208 to be the last Tipo Sport deliveried to german first owners. Hardly surprising, V.E. day was less than 3 weeks away!

Having been a owner of a 6c2500 SS Touring, this cabriolet looks very "plain Jane" in my opinion. There isn't a fancy dash, radio or layout that is interesting. You might say this car came as a stripped down version of what could have been a nice car. Then again this is at the end of the war and the owner probably plunked down every cent he had to get one of the last 6c's from the factory. The grille badge is incorrect and interesting to note is that there isn't a hand crank hole in the front grille as there are in other 6c's. Production according to Fusi is 53 Sports for 1942, 24 for 1943, 18 for 1944, and 3 for 1945. All 6c2500 Sports is 883 cars. The attraction is that this is a war car delivered to the Germans just before the end of the war which makes for an interesting story in itself. Just thought I would put out some rambling thoughts about this particular 6c.

I wonder where it was delivered, or whether it was delivered to the Wehrmacht at all. Since the allied offensive into northern Italy started in early April 1945, the HQ guys at Como can't have enjoyed it for long. Around 2nd May 1945, Como was taken by the allies. If it was indeed delivered to Oberkommando des Heeres on April 16, it happened about a week into the allied offensive. Talk about bad timing for a sports car

Milan was liberated by the general uprise of April 25th. Mid-April, when the car was delivered, the Allied armies were still 200 km away in the Bologna area.

But the "new owners" certainly didn't enjoy the car for long!
