Shipping from Japan to the US

Does anyone have experience bringing a car to the US from Japan? Or recommendations as to who might be able to help. Price?

Thanks, Scott

Hi Scott

I have shipped from US to Japan but not the other way, however have shipped from Japan to the UK.

There is nothing too difficult about it, but you do need to deregister the vehicle with the Japanese authorities, purely a formality, but you will need help, i.e. a Japanese speaker and familiar with the system.

The vehicle will need transporting to shipping company and inspected, e.g. no fire extinguishers allowed, and containerized. Also, of course, need to discuss decontainerisation at your address etc...

The person who acts for me is a personal friend and doesn't do it commercially. I suggest you contact a shipping company and ask them for a contact. Alternatively a freight forwarder could be employed, but maybe a more expensive option.

In general Japanese are both meticulous and trustworthy so if you use a big shipper - I use Mediterranean Shipping Company, MSC, but not sure if they ship to the US! - I think you should be in good, but possibly expensive hands.

Alternatively you could contact Portello1966, who is currently selling the AR Zagato in the for sale section, as he visits and ships from Japan frequently; maybe prepared to help/introduce someone.

Good luck.

Richard

PS Just a thought but maybe someone like CARS Europe the classic car shipping company could help, surely worth a call?
