The annual Fraser Valley Spring Drive 2009

This is the event that I organise every year (for the past three, or is it four years now? Anyways...) and it is a simple drive that we take through the countryside outside of Vancouver, B.C., better known as the Fraser Valley. We make a stop along the way at one of the numerous wineries in the area and this year, we visited: "Township 7 Vineyards & Winery". A nice, quaint place.

The drive went without a hitch (except for an unplanned stop, as the local police and fire dept. closed off one of our roads to clean up a head-on collision that happened before we arrived!!! Thankfully no one was killed.) and the group of cars stayed together very well, considering we had a record turn-out! As this was a combined event with the Ferrari Club of America - Western Canada Region, we had close to 30 cars in attendance. An excellent assortment of marques including - naturally - Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferrari, DeTomaso, Maserati and Lamborghini. We had people come in from Victoria and one of the Ferrari Club members from Seattle joined in on his way back home to the U.S.

We always finish off the drive with a lunch and this year, a member of the Austin-Healey Club invited our group to his home for a BBQ lunch. Members of the Austin-Healey Club were there too displaying their cars in the "backyard" of this gentleman's house (which happens to be a couple of acres of manicured lawns!).

Of course, the weather was the best part and it made the day even more enjoyable.

Enjoy the photos...

What makes or breaks this event is the weather and it sure was on our side for this year. But the consensus was that this event gives the Vancouverite members a chance to get out of the city and enjoy a nice relaxed drive out on some quiet country roads. I guess that's why it has been growing with each passing year.
