I was surprised when it was pointed out to me that news had not reached Alfabb of the restored Brian Foley GTAm, revealed at the AROCA Spettacolo display last Sunday. Attached are some of my average photos, but there are many more. Needless to say the car attracted a LOT of attention...

Edit: Strange I'm not able to make attachments. I'll link the images instead, sorry if they're slow to load.

Because there was never was any RHD 10551 GTAms! LHD was how it was made and delivered and competed in period in its 4cyl form.
Don't look too closely at the pictures; you will see that while all its original basics are there, there is also a lot of small items and finishing off to be done yet.
I wouldn't normally present an unfinished project, but the event organisers had arranged to fly Brian Foley down for the weekend, so it sort of had to be there regardless.
Regards,
Vince.

Hey Vin, did you ever take any photos of the way it had been converted? I've heard it was done using the LHD steering and idler boxes mounted on the outside of the rails to give additional room for the tasman v8 and exhausts?
I assume the steering wheel was a bit off from it's original position as a result?

With the t33 V8 fitted it was shifted to RHD by locating the LHD steering box outboard to clearance the engine bay as stated above. This was in '72.
I would love to get a copy of your Bay Park film and also your Alfetta gp4 book....I did mean to contact you but lost your email for that one.
Cheers,
Vince.

Vince,

I came across a post you made back in 2005 and, judging by the text, this is what you started out with. Spectacular work indeed. It would please a heck of a lot of people to read the full story of the restoration which brought the car back to life.

Cheers,

Alex.

The Chesterfield Racing GTAm, anybody? Probably unknown to anyone outside Australia. Came here from Autodelta in late '70 as a new GTAm (#1531068) , but was a rather worn-out example upon delivery.Only raced for one season ('71) in original form, was then fitted with Tipo 33, 2.5lt V8 (engine#25.00049,... see Alleggerita book). Does anybody know of another GTA or GTAm to be raced with a T33 engine when these were contemporary race cars ?
The pic below is it winning at Warwick Farm against Allan Moffat's '69 Trans -am Boss Mustang ( one of the five or six Kar Kraft cars built for Bud Moore's team that year. It actually came here as a new, unraced car. If you think a GTAm is pretty trick, you should see what one of these particular Trans-am specials consists of !!)
Note the GTAMs eight intakes and the conversion to RHD. The flares were also widened for 10" Minilites and smoothed in.
The other pic is it as found , sitting for 20+ years after a front end shunt, awaiting repair.
The T33 2.5 is back in it's original Brabham Tasman car, and the restoration of the the GTAm to original spec is underway. Fortunately, all the mechanical components are present and intact, including 5 Campagnolos 13x9. The one thing I do need is the slide throttle intake manifold (the original one was taken for a F2 motor in the '70s).... So if any one knows of a loose one please let me know.
VS.
