GTAm Replika Norway

Hi
I'll start with demystifying everything from start. THIS IS NOT A GENIUNE GTAm, I guess it's not a approved replika either but I don't care anyway, so for the rest of this thread I'll call it my GTAm.

The goal was from the start of this project to start in the new Corsa Italiana series during the 2008 season with a relatively thight budget and limited skills. Learning by doing...or failing... is the project mantra.

Ok, the facts:

Base:
1969 GTJunior 1300, bought half finished, dreadfully welded and nearly complete but with few juicy parts. Originality was out of reach....

The car was ripped, finished welded, seemed engine bay, new structural parts and most important a 6 point safetycage with a lot of secondary mounts to the car. The rear struts mounted in upper-rear shockmount area. Forces through rollcage have easier path down to the rear wheels. All unnescessary bodyparts removed.

GTAm glasfiberarches riveted to the body, all other bodyparts steel (some extremely lightened though), for now.

The bodywork was finished in march and I painted it myself (remember the mantra) in mid march with serious outfit, cool selfcomposed 60's orangeyellow colour, own spraygun and borrowed paintbox. The result was positively good for my first paintjob ever.

Ok, building time, first race six weeks from this. After about a year picking up this and that, most parts was on the shelves.

Interior, boot, enginebay and underside painted black...cheap, easy and functional...and of course cool indeed.

A full race 1750 engine was purchased earlier this winter from Sweeden. He claimed 170 flywheel hp adjusted at the well known Trend AB Sweeden. The engine is built by Sten Parner Racing for the sweedish modsport series a lot of years ago.

1750 block, 1600 top
45 Webers with 60mm slightly bent trumpets
Adjusted flow geometry (this is very interresting. never seen anything like this on an Alfa engine before), a lot taken away in top and built up bottom of both intake and exhaust (all way).
Big intake valve - miniplugs to fit the valves
Miracut seats
Alu retainers and race valve springs
C&B54 11,3mm lift racecams
Mondial pistons with a great deal of compression i guess
Extra cooling around chambers (don't ask me how)
4 to 1 tailored downpipes, 2,5" exhaust with one apple racingmuffler (99,1dB)

I will dyno the engine next week and doubt the 170hp, but we'll see.

Ouch, too much left to do, almost airbourne from the weekend in germany to the track for my first race ever. My Karma seem to have been stuck in customs. Everything is stressful and scary. Last finish together with Frodes Giulia Turbo, Mats' GTV2.0, Andreas' GTAm and Stens Ferrari 308GT4 in the garage the night before.

RACEDAY!
Half an hour just to get it started! Perfect start! Nothing adjusted

Practicing: Car seems ok, handling ok, my nerves very worn, but the car is much faster than I had feared...great!

A bad transponder sent me down to 13.th in the starting grid. I had only one or two laps recorded from qualifying.
The heart pounding at 160 when the race starts and I advance from 13.th to 4.th on first straight!! Something tells me that there is a beast somewhere hidden in that car or in my very heavy racing shoes.

Bugger

Learning by failing....very stupid, very expensive. To be continued tomorrow, I'm just too tired to tell the next exciting part of the story.

Giovanni! I'm sad to hear of the failure - how did Frode's car get on, did Trond get out with the Turbo GT?

p.s. love looking in your group garage....

Spk soon.
