Yeah, but thats what amateurs do...and hopefully how the amateurs in the future get professional...the hard way.
We'll see what comes out of Frodes car on thursday. For a lowcost turbo i'm impressed and beleive that he may get out quite a lot. Trond has more than enough and is scared healthless every time he is driving. Last weekend on Italian day he had to skip heat 2 and 3 because of lack of grip. The tires spins up in every gear.
Mats has finally got the juice out of the Alfetta, yesterdey with 157 rear wheel hp, Kartalamakis way!
I am looking forward to the dynorun for my own car thursday, it will not be even near this and he is the same class as me, but I trust the setup anyways and it has proved to be quite fast. The big bad engine has to come at a later time.
You'll have to see our garage before it's gone - probably in the end of 2009

Thanks, it's kind of unusual but I like the setup. More to come very soon.

Since disaster monday, I have had the engine fully apart, new Carrillos in place, fully balanced, machined crankshaft, wheightadjusted all parts in the bottom. New piston rings and new electronic 123 ignition. We'll have to see if it works at all with this engine. I have used the 006 programme until now and will test out the Shankle-programme as well. I know it's not optimal, but it's what I could afford and it will go in my daily GT later if it does'nt work.
I have also attached a Gripper race-differential (40-70% dynamic lockup relative to adapted force), set up with correct preloads and new bearings. I am sure I'll gain a second or two in the long run on our 2km tracks + propshaft with heavy duty bearings, new universal links and aluminium donut, all from Alfaholics. On testrun this setup seems extremely thight and responsive and all ugly noises from the old rusty driveline disappeared. I am really looking forward testing it on track.

If the engine is ok now there are only two things missing: a good gearbox and a good clutch. I am using a standard 1300 gearbox with ok forward gears and a really crappy reverse. The clutch friction plate is a heavy duty Volvo army plate. The problem is that the same plate expolded and totally disintegrated in Christer Lundems 2-litre racer a couple of weeks ago.

Other upgrades:
- Cooling system rebuilt alowing better flowconditions.
- Oil cooler and external filterholder rebuilt and shortened
- Fia approved Sparco foam-fire extinguisher installed for coupè and enginebay.
- Alpha oldschool revlimiter, adjustable thingy installed.
- VDO watertemperature giver and gauge installed
- More stickers...yeah!
The car will shortly get a white front GTAm style which will give it the final appearance balance.

OK
One week ago it was due for testrun at Italian day. I drove it on "testing plates" on the road...very funny, and very dangerous... after 150km it just died! I swore furiously, bent my control panel and splintered the hearingdevice (or what it's called, the thing you have over your ears to let the sound out). I was sure it had gone again, but after some fiddling, I found that the axle from the oilpump had broken right off. As I have understood, this is a quite normal fault.....no track driving then.... Karma left at home in bed (this was really early saturday morning, and the Karma probably suffered from a hangover).

New high capacity pump ordered wednesday from Max, delivered on my door the they after...NICE!
Installed with great care and "the right procedure" without taking the front cover off. It slid easily in and I have given it some revs on the starter while securing the bolts. Hope it holds. ANYWAYS - It's alive again and I hope the good Karma is with me the rest of the season and not running off to the pub al the time. I receive monthly spam mails from Danny Wallaces Karma Army so I cannot see why that should'nt help me...
More pictures to come when I have time
Dyno on thursday and next race the last weekend in august, both days with training friday.

I'm following with great interest as I'm having a racecar built as well, several months from completion.

(They say a race engine is usually strongest just before it breaks.)
I'm lost in the timeline. So did you finish building the car, race it, blow it up, then fix and upgrade it, test-drive it, break it again, then repair it, all within a week?

Stians,
That's quite a car you have, and it's pretty clear you've poured a lot of time and sweat to prepare it. Good luck with the rest of the season ...
You also hinted that the cylinder head has been extensively reworked, and it sounds like the inlet/outlet tracts have altered port geometry. Other BB'ers have been mentioning this kind of work in the past few months but I'd love to see some visual details (i.e. photos!!) if you take the head off again. Measurements would be very useful too!! I'm going to email Sten Parner to see what he can tell me. I'm hoping he speaks English because Swedish is one language I've never learned!
Thanks very much,
Alex.

Stian, I owe it to you guys to come and see your garage.... you all drove over to see me a couple of years ago.... Maybe I can use it as an excuse to bring the race car across and come and join in one of your races?.... Guess next year now though.

Haha, i'm not superman...yes, I guess it's a bit confusing.
The assembly was done in 6 weeks march/april/may. The "timeline" starts after the paintshop. The engine was assembled by me with new parts. This was my first time, so the breakdownprobably links back to me in some kind of way. This was may 12.th.
From then on the engine has been disassembled, machined, balanced rinsed, upgraded and assembled again with new bearings and pistonrings + the building of the race differential. The second "breakdown" with the oilpump was 1 week ago, saturday 9.th of august on the Italian Day trackday.
Since then I have fitted the new oilpump and some detailing....now ready and due for dynorun on thursday, next race saturday/sunday in about two weeks.
Did that help or was it even more confusing?
Stian

Alex:
I have talked with Sten Parner and he cannot remember this particular engine but he says it is his stamp and numbering. He is really a Ford/Volvo/Saab tuner known for pretty good engines...but you can of course try.
Max:
Yes, we think it is about time you come over....off course with the racer. We have plenty of rooms, or in worst case a garage that can house a dozen brits
See you, will soon update with new pictures and result from dyno (maybe it's no use contacting Sten Parner )

Result from dynorun:
163Hp on flywheel (more than I had expected)
115Hp on rear wheels (less than I had expected)
I cannot see why the loss is that much unless some power is lost in my old gearbox. He had told my friend (my temporary supervisor on site - Frode) that it could be because of that he had to strap it really hard on the rolls??
Any suggestions?
I have the Alfaholics rebuilt propshaft with aluminium donut, gripper differential (maybe too thight??), and off course this old gearbox.
