what is this

Can anyone tell me what this part is? it is bolted to a 2000 nord engine from 1972 below the intake manifold.

Perhaps a part to extract hot air around the engine to feed into the air filter when in summer winter?

Rafael, your right.
Connected by a black flexible hose to the canister style filter housing underneath. You could spin the knob on the front of the canister to select air in from the front opening or from the lower hose opening supplying engine heated air.
In Australia most of these were thrown away very early on.
