introducing myself and help re ID

Hi everyone
I'm andrew and am in adelaide south australia
Just bought a 105 coupe and would like some help in identifying the car and motor. I have spent time looking on this site and google-ing but as always still have lots of questions

The plate in the engine bay says guilia sprint GT veloce with the number 10537. the number stamped in the seal channel in the boot/trunk is also 10537 and the badge on the boot lid says guila spring gt and a matching veloce badge next to the RH rear light. All the books, websites i look at dont list a 10537 but list 10536 as guilia gt veloce. what have I got here? BTW chassis no is AR298288

Also the engine no is AR01600030467. the guy i bought it off said it was a 1600 and i presume the "1600" part of the eng no refers to this but the head has a triangle on it - which I believe is a 1750 head. Also all the pics I see of these old motors show an oilfilter can vertically mounted behing the alternator/generator. Mine has a screw in oil filter cartridge mounted horizontally on the same side but more forward (almost at the front face of the motor). Is this a much later motor than 1960-something with this type of filter. I didnt think they made smaller than 1750/2000 after early 70's.

I am not absolutely mental about orignialty but would like to know what i have and what i should be tring to make it look like if I make any changes (towars originality). It has ATE brakes and an LSD. It is a very nice example (sort of GTA-ed up a bit) and I will try to post some piccies soon.(BTW how do you tell the difference between the early small and the later large ATE brakes?

Cheers for any replies
andrew

Hi Andrew,
welcome and nice to see another GT Veloce owner. I have a project 67 GT Veloce in the garage.
10537 is the Tipo Number for the RHD version and 10536 is LHD.
According to Fusi(old alfa guy that wrote some pretty definitive books on most of the models) your chassis number is right for a 1966 model however the engine number should start with 00536 to be a GT Veloce 1600 and fall between 00536.00770 - 00536.11033.

Sounds like a later motor if it has the screwon filter without an adapter. Probably an alfetta engine. Number doesnt match the 105 series 1750 although the 1750 head can fit a 1600 block, I have one on my 1600 in my giulia super.

Looking forward to the pics, then we can tell you what is not original. Ciao

Check with a few of the alfa parts/mechanics such as Milano Spares in Melb. I think Robert from Manning Motors in Sydney has a couple in his stockpile. I have a spare 1600 from a Sprint GT but the engine number is not correct for yours. I'll probably be pilfering it for parts later anyway. The 1600 heads are a bit harder to come by which is often why many upsized there engines after they cracked a head, apart from the obvious powre increase gained.
