Battery Question

I'm needing to change my battery and was wondering if anyone had any preference for any brand.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I have a BOSCH on mine.. They last for a long long time...
What I strongly suggest is to get a maintenance free "closed" type battery to which you never have to add battery fluid.
It will save you battery base and all the stuff around the battery form corrosion!

I prefer the Optima Battery's. I used the Yellow Top in the race car (it was a total loss system - no alternator), and in the trailer for the 12 volt stuff. I'm putting a Red Top in the Super when the restoration is done, and when it's time to replace the batteries in the truck it gets the Red Tops too. These are not lite weights like the Odyssey, but I think you'd be vary happy with one.

The [dry/sealed?] batteries like Optima have the advantage of not spilling acid when you corner hard or turn upside down. In mild track use, the standard Interstate battery in my GTV let a lot of fluid that made hash of the paint on my inner fender.

I too prefer Optima batteries. I use red tops in all my cars. They are sealed so you don't have to worry about corrosion or fumes. Mine typically last 6 years in my daily drivers. I get them at Costco but there are slightly cheaper online outlets. The only consideration on an Optima is they are shorter in height than a standard battery. The Optima comes with a spacer to allow proper fitment, however many suppliers will forget to give you one unless you ask.

I use an Optima RedTop battery in the 74 GTV.

Coincidentally, I have one for sale if you are interested. I am asking $22K for it, and it comes with a really really nice 74 GTV!

looks like the Optima is the battery of choice...but I must say that the Odyssey sounds very tempting....I've been trying to lose a few pounds for quite a while.

I've used an Odyssey PC 680 Drycell on the upper shelf of the trunk for a year now. Very strong on a 1750 engine with 10.4 compression, even freezing temps with 13 Ft of standard battery cable. 15.4 lbs

I briefly tried to find a dealer for both Optima and the Odyssey here in Canada and so far haven't found one...
However I'll continue to look .... it's hard to believe that they aren't available here.

I did indeed call them ..but got the Odyssey today which, of course, doesn't come with the terminals and, of course, the dealer didn't have them, so I'll get those online I guess.

Actually, if anyones interested, I found that the distributor for ODYSSEY in Florida, was very helpful (a guy call Ralph returned my voicemail within 24 hours) and would ship one directly for $139 including shipping..I thought that was pretty good considering that I'm 1800 miles away.
