which engine to put back - 1600 or 2000?

Due to some welding repair (see my post on crossmember separating from chassis) I've pulled the 1600 to get proper access. I just happen to have a 2000 sitting around that I could drop back in. Yes, I am aware of some modification needing to be done regarding clutch etc. What I am really interested in is if there is a consensus on which engine I should be racking up the miles on. This isn't about performance, it's about preservation. This car is going to be driven near daily and at some point down the road may or may not get a full restoration - the 330 gets the full restoration first. With this in mind, do we save the miles on the 1600, pickle it and put it aside, or figure it doesn't really matter, drive which ever engine since if you do a full restoration you're rebuilding the engine anyway?

My opinion would be to keep the 1600.
I've had my '67 GTV since 1974 and used it for everyday transport for more than 10 years! Good power for the freeways and MUCH better gas mileage !!
If you want some more performance, do what I did on my Duetto 1600. Porting the head, 10548 intake cam and lighter flywheel. Quite a bit more fun!

I'm a purist at heart. I like things as there were - the way God intended them to be.

Id choose the stock 1600. The mpg is good, and the performance is there at the drop of the throttle.

I'm going to suggest the other route. Put the 2L in it now, and the 1600 when you do the restoration. My '67 GTV had a 2L, as does my Super. And as Tim "The Toolman" Taylor use to say, "MORE POWER".

For the current moment, the 1600 is on it's way back in. Today in fact. Clutch was shot, so had to make the call on what flavor to order, and went with the 1600 clutch. Given the way gas prices are going nuts, this might be a good thing. I also have to remind myself that this is my wife's driver, and I've got a tweaked 3.0 in my GTV-6 (oversize valves, Shankle cams, port & polished heads, exhaust, 4.10 LS from Platinum etc.) so I do get a chance for my fix for more power

Now, that 2 litre isn't going anywhere, and there is always a chance next summer it might go in if my wife sees too many taillights.....
