Exhaust system

I'm in the market for a new exhaust system.
I was told that there's a company up here in Canada called Stebco..?

Anyone have any experience with them or others ?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

There's also Ansa, idk if they're based in Canada; IAP, they carry the original-type exhaust, and then see about the Magnaflow systems I've seen things about on this BB.

Stebro, from what I've heard, has mixed reviews. It's kinda pricy for one thing but it's stainless steel which will make it long lasting especially in an exhaust system, there have been some unfavorable replies in the past about delivery times and/or customer service, some say fitment is an issue while others say they are great. A search will turn up what I've said.

I had a Stebro on my former 164L. I liked it a lot, sounded and looked good, but I didn't buy it myself - my mechanic did, so he dealt with them. I get the impression that they prefer to do business with volume shops rather than individuals.
I have a Magnaflow system bought from Simon here on the AlfaBB on my '74 GTV. I couldn't be happier with it! Looks and sounds great, and was pretty easy to install myself. Only thing different b/w this and Stebro really is tips: Stebro polishes their tips, while the magnaflow system is a plain finish. I took an hour with the tip and a few very fine grades of emery paper and then the buffing wheel and got a nice polish on mine before installing it. I think Simon is running another batch of these soon - check in on the last page of that thread for details (and the first pages for general info on the system):
MAGNAFLOW Exhaust Systems Have Arrived !!!

I had a Stebro on my Ferrari 308 GT4. Looked and fit beautifully, and sounded great. They gave me a great deal on the price and shipped it for free. It was cheaper than their normal Alfa systems are.

I find their Alfa systems to be pretty expensive. I personally like the stock-type systems Centerline and IAP sell, but some folks like a bit more noise. I have bought a few Centerline pieces and been happy with the fit, finish, and sound. And they're great to deal with, in my experience.

I purchased a Stebro exhaust for my Saab several years ago. I found the company very easy to deal with. The price was expensive, but I recall that they had some sort of a promotion going that led to a discount. Shipping was timely and fitting was no problem. It looks great. A little loud for my (or rather my wife's and so now my) taste on a 900 Saab.

I was also considering a new exhaust for my '70 GT Junior, but not because it was rotted (it actually has a relatively new CISAM system), but because I'm 27 years old and there's nothing I love more than hearing my 1300 rev! So I recently ordered Centerline part OE507 at $63 which is an exhaust rear section without a muffler to replace the current CISAM rear section that has a muffer. I don't know what your reason for chaning the exhaust is, but if it's more sound I'll let you know what mine is like after I install.

Take Care,
Mike

The stock mild steel systems don't last all that long, especially in salty, wet areas, and if you do a lot of short drives, where the exhaust doesn't fully warm up to boil out all the condensation. Stainless in theory will last far longer.

The killer of exhaust systems.

Yep. I live in coastal Calif, where there is salty sea air to some extent, but not that much rain, and no road salt. My exhausts have always rusted from the inside out, not the outside in.

Recall the H20 is a byproduct of gasoline combustion.

Does anyone have a "stinger" system i.e. a rear section with no muffler? Just curious on how it sounds?

I did for awhile on my 74 GTV. Previously a totally stock mild steel system front to back. Basically stock 2000 engine with large intake valves and Euro cams.

The muffler-free rear piece was an IAP or Centerline piece I bought used for my track car. At idle and low throttle openings it was much deeper and throatier, but at large throttle opening and fast speeds it managed not to be very different from stock. Not obnoxiously loud, but definitely louder. It introduced more vibrations through the body though, I don't know if from the noise or from maybe not as good a job fitting (by me). I grew tired of the noise and sold it. I am more oriented toward quiet cars.

Thanks Andrew, I'm looking forward to getting mine put on. I generally find what many people think is too loud is just right for me :-)

Take care,
Mike

All your advice is very helpful..

I do drive short distances so Stainless will probably be the way to do.
I'd rather listen to my car than the radio so a bit of sound doesn't bother me...and I am in Canada so transport, tax and duty are an issue...Therefore I think I'll check out Stebro before going the IAP route.

Thanks for your input.
