Clutch Click

I have a fairly consistent click when depressing the clutch pedal. Sometimes, perhaps 15% of the time, there is no click, but I can't seem to notice any particular pattern to when it does and does not make the click. I estimate that the sound is made when the pedal is half engaged.

Any ideas of what the problem may be?

Is your car a floor pedal car, or suspended pedals? Often the pivot pins get badly worn and click when they move inside the yoke of the master cylinder. We often have to put in a larger pin.

It's a '71 GTV 1750. I believe it has suspended pedals, from memory.

clutch click

Move the driver's seat back, crawl into the footwell with a flashlight, and look up at the clutch pedal. There is a clevis pin{pivot} where the pedal attaches to the fork of the master cylinder. If you push on the pedal with your hand, you will probably see that the pin is the source of your click noise. It is worn and needs replacing. Also a little heavy grease on the new pin will help it from wearing out again.

Could also be the clutch pivot arm cracking at the weld, or just engagement/disengagement noise at the slave cylinder/throw out bearing arm area. Hard to say without watching the works while someone else pushes on the clutch pedal.
