A fun story....true....
Drove my 74 GTV from Pittsburgh to Santa Fe in 3 days, and was able to do most of it on 2 lane highway. Stopped in a tiny farm town in Kansas, a 60's donut shop with a plump middleaged waitress named Vona, hair up and pink uniform, she listened in on a payphone call I made to a friend in NYC. When he asked where I was, I didn't know the name of the town, so told him, Sphincter, Kansas....We both laughed until I saw Vona. She shook her head, a bit angry, and when I hung up, she told me that there was NO SUCH town. We made up when I let her beep my air horns on the GTV before leaving the donut store, and she even warned me that her brother was the Po-lease in town.. and that he hid behind the welcome sign on the west end of town...About 100 miles west of the town, I stopped to watch a huge thunderhead rolling straight down the middle of the highway I was on.. Not another car for miles.. Drove thru the middle of it, no hail, but a wall of water... and found out how unwatertight the right window was. I drove on thru the expansive and barren NE corner of NM and got home by 2 am. Car ran like a sewing machine.. *** was sore for two days... a polaroid and a digi shot...
