Making Use of a useless backseat

Hi All...i know this may sound strange or even cause a expulsion from the alfa BB...but i am in the process of modifying the Back seating area of my 1750GTV...since the rear seats are virtually useless for humans that is...Im drawing up plans to to make a nice custom luggage/stowage/place for my dog area...of cours I'll keep the beautifully restored seats and not make any major structural mods...but i ae an idea to just create a nice shallow box with a hinged lid and a nice chrome pull-handle...the seat backs would be replaced by and a straight/flat bulkhead...i would finish the bulkhead in a padded black leatherette or something similar thats attractive and reasonably robust and likely cover the floor/stowage box lid with a removable rubber matting so its easy to clean..maybe use modified GTV Boot liner for it...i think its a practical modification that if done nicely wont detract from the style of the interior...and it allows for more than an overnight bag for trips on the backroads of Europe...and when Im only going on day trips i dont have to leave my dog at home...she can come along...has anybody out there attempted anything like this or come across such an idea...

All for now...looking forward to the new driving season...first trip...south through the Dolomites and then down to the Amalfi coast...

Cheers
Larry

Larry:

The attached photos show how I did this recently on my Sprint GT. Unlike the pictures that PiperYelloGTV2k posted, I kept the seatback original because a) I wanted to car to appear sort of original, and b) it was simpler to upholster the seatback than to fabricate something.

Since my batteries are underneath the deck, I don't use that space for storage - wouldn't want my jack bouncing up against the battery + terminal!

I just upholstered the horizontal surface with the same "pepper & salt" carpet used elsewhere on the car, and the vertical piece that supports it with the same charcoal vinyl that is on the side panels.

Also Nice

Also a nice idea Jay...and i agree with the concept of keeping some of the original look..I mean the contour of the 1750 seats are lovely if only they werent utterly useless for actually sitting in...I think the main reason for me t go with a straight backed bulkhead type is that I do go on lots of weekend outings and I have a big dog so I would be afraid of her messing up my newly restored seat backs...after seeing the a couple of carpeted designs im now leaning toward a nice pile carpet on both the horizontal and vertical surfaces with a few chrome strips accenting things (as seen) in another thread here...and the idea of a little shallow storage space under the lower surface seems a great idea...overall i think the reno makes it into a even more fun touring car..

thanks so much so far to everyone..I knew I wasnt the only one with this idea...love to see more...

L.
