Grille question

Hey Folks,
Just a question on my grille- ive got a 74 GTV 2000 which the previous owner converted to a 1750 style grille, as in attached photo. I am wondering if I should paint black the vertical lip where the grille attaches to the nose panel (see closeup photo) behind the metal part of the grille. Also some of the parts dont fit very well, especially the plastic filler pieces between the headlight and the fog light...not sure if the holes were different on a 2000 vs a 1750. The car has never been wrecked so that is not the reason for poor fitment. Maybe I should just change it back to the 2000 grille, but I kinda like the 1750 grille better.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

I personally like the 1750 grille better than the 2000 too, but I guess it's up to you whether to go with looks or originality.

Which part do you wonder if should be black? I don't think any of it should be, but can't quite tell from you query which part you mean. What you have pictured looks right to me for a 1750 GTV.

I just posted a closer photo...the little vertical tab where the screws go through. I put in some rudimentary arrows pointing to the part im talking about. The tab connected to the upper part of the nosepiece.

Personally, I've always thought the 2000 grille looked good on dark colored cars, but just a little too "fussy" on lighter colored cars.

My silver GTV has the 2000 grille, with everything but the central heart section painted flat black. It's not as elegant as the full 1750 grille treatement, but cleans up the front of the car a bit.

A picture of the three grille styles for comparison.

If you are talking about the lip around the grille opening where you have the white hash marks, I would call that horizontal rather than vertical. None the less, in my opinion it would look better painted flat black to make it "disappear." You could put some black tape on it to see how it looks before you actually paint it.

I believe though, that the beveled lip is body color from the factory.

I agree with Andrew on it being body color from the factory so it's really a matter of whether you think it will look better blacked out. Try the tape trick and go from there.

Looks suspiciously like a giulia super grille (with the lower bonnet line)

Not it's not a Giulia Super grille. Looks like a normal 1750 GTV grille.

1750 v. 2000 Grille

Hmm. Going back to the original question. Does anyone have a theory on why the 1750 grille looks smaller than the opening? My understanding is that the body panels on the 1750 and 2000 are identical. If the panels are original and undamaged, could it be an aftermarket grille? Or maybe they always look that way from the angle of the picture and the paint color accentuates it?

The part of the 2000 grille other than the center "shell" has more thickness to it (cast metal) than the 1750 grille (expanded metal with thin frame). So I think it sticks forward more, and masks more of the beveled area.

Someone with parts books could tell us whether the nose body pieces are in fact the same. I would guess so.

I was pondering the same thing the other day on my GTV 2000. The 'lip' behind the grill is black on my car, but the car has been painted by PO before. I was never sure what was factory correct. Personally I don't think it makes much difference on a 2000 grill.

I'd say that the lip is body color (on 1750s for sure). Pics below are of the same 69 1750 with and without the grille. The 1750 and 2000 nose pieces would carry different part numbers anyway since the 2000 noses have four air intake openings below the grille while the 1750s (except for a few documented cases) have only two rectangular openings.
