Fuel Filter in trunk

My GTV came with a fuel filter in the trunk about a foot up from the sending unit. Is it proper to be there or is it too much of a good thing? I believe I have a fuel delivery problem that I am trying to trace and I just want to make sure that this filter isn't the culprit. It is clear plastic with filter material in it, something like on a lawn mower. Thanks

Is this a carb or Spica car? Either way, there shouldn't be one. On a carb car, the fuel comes out of the sending unit and into a hose that goes through the bulkhead in front of the tank to the metal fuel pipe under the car. On a Spica car, the fuel supply doesn't come through the trunk, but rather out the bottom of the tank, under the muffler, to the filter, to the delivery pump, the to the metal lines to the front filter and injection pump.

Forgot to add to my post that the car has carbs from the factory. It was originally purchased in Canada.

Oddly enough, I had the car running this past weekend. It took a few minutes of pumping to get the gas from the tank up to the carbs, but once it started it ran fine all weekend. On Monday night I re-attached the center console and connected the gas and temp gauge and since then I can't get the car to turn over. I haven't had a chance to to dig any deeper than just trying to start it up. I can't believe anything I did with the console could have anything to do with my start-up problems. I've been thinking of pulling the fuel pump and filter assembly and giving them some maintenance anyway. Thanks

Early Webered cars have a factory metal or glass fuel filter/bowl in the engine compt. Not sure about late GTVs. It's best to have a filter somewhere, but the trunk is not where Alfa put it.

Failure to turn over is not a problem with the fuel system...

Sorry Andrew, bad choice of words. It is turning over(starter engaging and cranking) but it does not want to start. It fires once, but that's it. The previous owner said it always took him a few minutes of cranking on that first start up in spring. He was true to his word. I drove the car on Saturday. Then on Sunday, and it started up fine.
I am not seeing any fuel in the clear fuel line at the carbs, and that is what is making me think that the fuel pump or glass filter bowl is suspect.

The vast majority of non-start problems are electrical, not fuel related.

If you're getting decent pressure of fule at the carbs, I'd bet your problem is electrical. Proceed systematically on each system to troubleshoot? Check cam timing too unless you already did?
