1750 handbrake gaiter

hi

I'm chasing some info on the handbrake gaiter for the series 1 1750.
My car has a rubber one. The gearstick has a nice vinyl/leather one which may be an aftermarket addition?

I see that alfaholics has a vinyl handbrake gaiter for sale (also a rubber one), but cant quite work out how the vinyl one would install... The bottom of my gearstick gaiter has a nice chrome rim which seems to snug it into the hole in the wood. There is no similar chrome rim for the handbrake hole and i'm wondering if one exists.

what do people have on their 1750's? what is the actual original configuration?

I'll post some pictures when i get home!

NO, the vinyl gearshift gaiter is meant to be there, as is the rubber one on the handbrake. Unless the specific items that you've got are different you're on the right track. I've never seen a 105 series Alfa with a fabric handbrake gaiter.

Hi,

The gearstick gaiter is stapled to a plastic piece that sits under the wood veneer and is held both by the lugs from the chrome surround (4 lugs go through the veneer and are held from the back by clips) and is also held by the screws into the ventilation slider block.

No idea how the handbrake gaiter would be fitted but I imagine you would need to make up a similar type of plastic "bracket" that would be held to the underside of the console (super glue would work!) and the vinyl stapled to it. I guess it is just a cheaper option and at about $100 for the rubber one plus shipping I can see why.

Andrew

The OE handbrake gaiter has a grove that fits around the wooden veneer in the console. But it rarely fits properly in my experience.

A truer statement was never written!
There was no bracket, glue or anything else to fix the gaiter to the console. It is fixed by the groove in the gaiter.

gaiter

I replaced the original HB gaiter on my 1750 with a new rubber one from a reputable parts supplier here in europe...iivr tried everything to get to sit right and it just wont...so i might just refurbish the old one...
