Smile carbase online

Check this site. I had a bit of a problem getting it to work but then found a load of instruction booklets, press releases and manuals for my 1750GTV.
Alfa Romeo CarDisc
Have fun.

Best regards,
Hmm, "bshorey" might not be such a stand up guy in the eyes of a judge, if CarDisc were to hall his butt into court for posting and sharing copyright protected material on the internet. I would also think that the Alfa BB administrators would not wish to be a party to such postings here as well. In case anyone is wondering, yes, I have a close association with the owner of CarDisc.

Look, I'm sure "bshorey", believes he is simply doing right by sharing, as do we all when helping each other out. However, what "bshorey" may not know and understand is that there are people earning a living, not to mention spending countless hours making these Cd's, depending on the sales of these Cd's. How would any of us feel if someone simply cut in and began giving away our means of earning a living. Think about it. It's bad enough the dollar we earn is worth less with each passing day.

CarDisc is great info at a fair price, no question about it. I might be wrong, but is the info on the CarDisc derived from Alfa factory copyright material and/or free factory Alfa Romeo material to start with? I'm no atty, but does that matter?

CarDisc and Copyright

I am an attorney, though not a copyright expert. I do know this: there is no copyright protection for assembling non-copyright-protected material. So, if the Alfa information is simply available for all and there is no agreement between CarDisc and Alfa transferring or licensing copyright for the material, then CarDisc would have no legal protection. If Alfa has retained the copyright and licensed CarDisc, then posting on the internet and copying would violate the copyright. With that said, CarDisc has done a great service to the Alfa community in assembling the materials. The right thing may be to support that effort by buying the disc even if there is no legal impediment to posting and copying from the internet.

Nor am I an expert on copyright, but know quite a lot about it and with some of the recent disscusions on other threads about posting copyrighted material on the AROC website, Brian, may have had a different thought process about the legality of copyright and the sharing of the material. I don't have a CarDisc handy to look and see what information is on the label as far as ownership and copyright protections, but I'm fairly certain that I remember reading something to that effect.

My knowledge of copyright and its rules is based primarily in dealing with publishers as an author and in face-to-face teaching as far as what is allowed to be excerpted or copied for classroom use or for out of class study.

UPDATE

Each CarDisc in my set is clearly marked in small black print on a gold label at the top: "Copyright 1995 Car Disc International, Ltd.," preceded with the recognized "c in a circle" for copyright, along with a few words about editor that was smaller than I could read clearly; below that, on the lower portion of the label in larger black stylized print, is the title of the Alfa model that the disk pertains to.

HTH and puts all those inquiring minds at ease as to why Brian may have removed the material from his site. He is ultimately fair and has a copyright explanation posted on the page preceding his pictures, explaining how and where they were obtained, and if there are any errors or ownership issues to please contact him and the material will be removed.

P.S. copyright;
Whoops! Just noticed myself being discussed here, so I thought I'd chime in.

For the record, any of the CarDisc stuff that was on my web site was never really intended for public consumption. I never provided any high level links to it, and thought it was in a hidden area, yet Google still found it and indexed it.

I do travel a lot, and enjoyed having access to all that material (and other stuff I'd scanned myself) while on the road.

In the past, I've also passed individual images to folks in response to questions that have been asked, but I've always tried to recommend they support the CarDisc folks in the process. I am a believer in their product, I think I've bought almost all of them myself and I'd like to think I've generated a fair amount of business for them by word of mouth.

That said, as soon as it came to my attention that the stuff was public, I took it down immediately, and issued an apology to them.

Hope this clarifies things,

bs

All the legal biffo aside, I did not know the CarDisc website existed. I've just had a look and ordered a CD for my model.
A little publicity can be a wonderful thing sometimes and hopefully my $US69.00 will go someway to defraying the costs of lost business.
Chris

PS: Nice squirrel .....

Be assured that the advertising may be somewhat illusive, but there since this thread has already been indexed by Google with the proper search query and anyone that takes the time to read it will discover what product is being discussed and the advertising and consumer "pro" comments are free to the vendor.

Nice to know what the individual disks cost; I'm not sure how many are in the set and I'm not going to get them out and count them, but at say 10 disks x $69 thats $690. for the set. The other side of that, is I don't know how many buy the complete set.

When in doubt about what CarDisc International Ltd. - Home Page has available for Alfa Romeo now also in DVD check the site out.

I just got my new cardisc 164 1987-1997 DVD and it has pretty much everything for the 164 now all on one DVD including two volumes of Euro Spec wiring diagrams.
