69 seats in a 66 GTV
I bought a pair of 1969 flying buttress seats and finally got around to test fitting them in my 66 step nose GTV. I figured I'd better do that before spending a bunch to recover them. It was actually pretty hilarious as my interior is completely restored in black and the buttress seats are shabby torn tan color originals. I brought the car by the local cars and coffee event and anyone who looked inside was quite puzzled!
At any rate here is my report on the fit.
I unbolted and pulled the original seats out. And the original floor mount sliders slid right into bottom rails of the flying buttress seats and the seats then had no problem bolting to the car floor. After bolting in a couple items became apparent:
- the taller seats with headrests would hit the steering wheel or glovebox when folded forward. And possibly the sun visors. Car must be exercised when folding the seats. No problem, I figure it must be like that in the 69 car too.
- the passenger side of the car is significantly narrower than the driver side. The seat will actually hit the door if it is put into a forward position. But this seems like a position that would be unlikely to be comfortable. But it is possible the door or armrest could be damaged if the seat was all the way or folded forward.
- the seat bottoms are close to the sills and center tunnel, but the original seats were too.
You can see these items in the pictures that follow. However, I think the fit is fine, and at least in my car, they bolt right in.
