Quite a few of what we call '74s were not sold until '75 or even '76. Alfas often spent years on the dealership lot- just ask someone who worked for or owned a dealership in the day.
LSUFAN- #5958 is a late production number, but I've seen others close to that. I'm sure Alfa's paperwork said it was a '74, but it could have been made later. In my family, we have a '74 that was sold new by Moore Motors of Bellevue, WA in April of '76.
Also, keep in mind that the '74 115.01 had several exemptions from the new and ever tightening US federal regulations -the non 5mph bumpers are the most obvious example. The Alfetta was a late arrival for '75 (and it was heavier and slower here in the US), so I wouldn't be surprised if Alfa kept right on shipping 115.01 GTV's to the US past the normal August model year end.
I love a good Alfa production mystery

Good question. I don't know. The only info I've been able to get so far is the Serial number from a copy of the Title. The Title is CA and they indicate that the first title year was in '75 for the vehicle. Seems like this kind of info should be out there on the web somewhere, but I have been unable to find it. Does that mean that the 980 something '75's and few '76's listed are all Europe models only? I sent an e-mail to Elvira and ALFA. Hopefully someone can feed me a little more info. I should hopefully have the car delivered by the end of next week or the beginning of the following.

Wow ! very close to mine ... AR3025458 ! a Dutch Blue GTV2000
I emailed Elvira some time ago, and was told this number "originally corresponds to an Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce manufactured on the 2nd
October 1974 and sold on the 10th October 1974 to Alfa Romeo from Englewood Cliffs, Usa."
Hope this is of interest

November 27, 1974 was her birthday. A few days after yours. Unfortunately she couldn't provide any info on when the car was sold and where. The research continues.

Don, what is the build date of your car?

Hello Gianni and other members,
This is what I came up with from the book of Maurizio Tabucchi called 'Alfa Romeo, Die Komplette Typenhistorie' published by Heel in 2000.
It says about the righthand drive 2000 GTV chassisnumbers of 1974 (105.22) that they include the chassisnumbers of 1975.
The same could apply for the US models and perhaps also for the European models.
Chassisnumbers of the 2000 GTV (1971 and 1972 not included)
1971 (from Tabucchi)
Left hand drive 105.21: 2420001 up to 2427650
Right hand drive 105.22: 2410001 up to 2410250
America (inizione) 115.01: none
1972 (from Tabucchi)
Left hand drive 105.21: 2427650 up to 2433790 (correction from the book)
Right hand drive 105.22: 2410251 up to 2412050
America (inizione) 115.01: 3020001 up to 3020951 and 3021501 up to 3021717
1973 (Tabucchi)
Left hand drive 105.21: 2433791 up to 2444050
Right hand drive 105.22: 2412051 up to 2413734
America (inizione) 115.01: 3021718 up to 3022800
1974 (Tabucchi)
Left hand drive 105.21: 2444051 up to 2445676
Right hand drive 105.22: 2413735 up to 2414649 (including 1975 production)
America (inizione)115.01: 3023001 up to 3023900
1975 (Tabucchi)
Left hand drive 105.21: 2445677 up to 2446580
Right hand drive 105.22: 2413735 up to 2414649 (including 1974 production)
America (inizione)115.01: 3025901 up to 3027089
Fusi in 'Tutte le Vetture dal 1910' published by Emmeti Grafica in 1978 mentions different chassisnumber ranges for the 1971 and 1972 years. I don't know which one is better so I use the Tabucchi numbers because they range from 1971 until 1975.
Ciao, Olaf

Ciao Olaf!
On a personal note does it mention the year my 1600 GTJ was built?
AR 2201053
Engine no. 00536 S 2663
Does the engine match the chassis I wonder?
Also you have a 'lusso'. What spec had they as I've learned that juniors like mine were lower spec'ed (?)... Were juniors like mine available in metallic paint? I read in an Italian publication recently that they were only available in plain colours?
Regards,
Gordon

Olaf,
Tried to buy 'Alfa Romeo, Die Komplette Typenhistorie' on Amazon.de but seems to be unavailable. In the meantime would you check out my Autotelaio above to kill my curiousity?
Also still curious about the junior paint range. I've seen that it wasn't an option on the colour chart but my car was sold in Berlin initially and while trying to buy a handbook in German on ebay saw a grigio media car on the cover begging the question was it available there? Silver being the traditional German racing colour.
Thanks as usual!
