Trunnion Bushings

I was experiencing a shudder in the rear-end if I didn't use the clutch carefully, so I pulled the differential to replace the bushings in the trailing arms and where the diff attaches to the trunnion. The front of the trailing arms seem to have a lot of free lateral movement, the rears actually look pretty good but will be replaced anyway.

Any opinions on whether or not I should tackle the two trunnion bushings where it attaches to the body? With the diff out, I can move the end of the trunnion (suspension triangle) vertically about 7 inches in total. I can't feel any lateral movement or looseness.

Thanks.

Replace it all. You will be glad you did. I totally rebuilt my 69 GTV front and rear a few years ago and it became a delight to drive. After discussions with Mike Besic, I replaced some of the bushings with poly bushing and did a few other minor tweaks he suggested. His opinion was to make the suspension just a trifle tighter, but not so you would need a kidney belt to drive. He was spot on. The car feels great and is easy to drive for distance. Track days are fun, but I still want to enjoy the car during the other 360 days a year.

Thanks for the reply. Did you have any trouble with the bushings that hold the trunnion to the body? I'm going with the poly bushings at the front of the trailing arms with the rubber ones to the rear, and the standard rubber ones on the triangle.

It looks like I'm missing a spacer at each end of the triangle... anyone have a source or good replacement?

I think I got my replacement spacers from Centerline. Haven't installed them yet so don't know anything else about them.
