1750/2000 speedo drive?

Hello all,

Should I have any issues with the speedo drive when fitting a 2000 gearbox into my 1750?

I'd imagine that there shouldn't be a problem as only the square hole for the end of the cable had to engage with the cable...

Any ideas?

No issues. I've done that swap numerous times recently and even got the speedo to work on occasion!

Pretty much all US delivery 105/115 Alfas had 4.56 differentials, so the speedometer drive gears in the transmissions are designed for that, regardless whether the box was delivered with a 1750 or 2L engine. Sure, later spiders had 4.10's, so if the car that donated your new gearbox was an EFI spider, you could have problems (did those cars have electronic speedometers too? if so, do they even have a drive for the speedo cable?).

In practice, Alfa speedometers are wildly inaccurate, so whether the gears in the speedo drive are sized for a 4.10, 4.56, or 5.12 won't matter a whole lot - if the speedo turns and the odometer increments when you're done, consider it a success.
