GTV 101 (as in course number)

I've been playing around with my new 74 GTV now for a few days. Great fun. This is the first car I've bought that is actually in good shape. It came without an owner's manual, however, and there are a few things that I can't figure out. I'm hoping that someone can provide me with a quick GTV 101 course.

1. Hand throttle -- how does this work and what's it used for? (My old Giulietta didn't have one of these).
2. Round White button between hand throttle and hazard switch??
3. Round Black button to right of ignition with spiral arrow on it??
4. Toggle switch next to the heat and air directional sliders??
5. Is the fan supposed to blow air through the vents on the dash front or just the defroster vents on the top?
6. Lastly, there is some sort of chime that appears to come from the stereo speakers when the car is placed in gear after its turned off??? Any ideas?

Many thanks.

The following scans from the 1974 owners manual should answer a few questions.

Very helpful. Thanks Jim. That answered everything except what the hand throttle is for and the mysterious chimes when I put the car in gear after turning off the engine.

as far as i'm aware the hand throttle is for keeping the enging idling while the car is warming up on cold mornings. a kind of substitue for an automatic choke.

watch out though - as the engine warms up the revs will increase exponentialy. more than once i have started the car, realized i have forgotten something inside, set the idle at 1500 rpm or so, gone back inside to get whatever i forgot, and come back to find the car almost redlining!

on a related point, people from the alfa club have told me the choke on these cars shouldn't be used as it is bad for the 105 engines to run so rich when starting up.

on closer inspection it looks like the 2000s don't even have a choke. my 1750 has one next to the hand throttle.

The Euro 2000 has a mechanical cruise control.

The 'chime' that you're referring to is probably your modern CD/stereo reminding you to remove the faceplate once you've switched off the ignition. Is it a SONY per chance?

Is this a SPICA car?

Ah yes, it is Sony and that makes perfect sense. Can't imagine anyone would steal this stereo any more. Thanks for solving the mystery.

A Spica car shouldn't need any help from the hand throttle on a cold start if the TA is working properly. The TA should give you a fast cold idle speed by itself and like an automatic choke, go to a normal idle after warm up. A (maybe) better purpose of the hand throttle is if you are stopped (traffic or whatever) with a warm motor, engaging the throttle and engaging higher revs may prevent spark plug fouling instead of you continuioulsy blipping the gas (granted, the latter sounds much better). Just remember to push in the hand throttle when you resume your normal driving. The hand throttle is not meant to be used as a cruise control.

Like most of us in Euro and Australia, we always think of the hand throttle's application on carb'd engines as we've got little to no experience with SPICA.
