Thumbs down GTV2000 Seat reclining mechanism knob installation

I need to replace the seat reclininging mechanism knob on a GTV2000. I have a replacement knob complete with chrome plastic insert and my mechanism appears to be okay otherwise - just missing a knob. There is a 3-point star wheel (not sure this is the right term) to which the knob attaches. One side of the tips of the star wheel are turned up slightly. The points of the star wheel which are flat and about 10mm wide go into slots in the knob but I couldn't twist the knob onto the star wheel without applying what I considered unreasonable force and I don't want to break the knob. Do I have to disassemble the mechanism to install the new knob or can it be installed without disassembling the mechanism?

Hello there
Are you only replacing the large 'wheel' with the chrome plastic insert that you turn to recline/raise the seat or the whole unit? I tried fiddling with mine so that I could pull them apart to repaint it all, but I struck the point that it seemed to not want to come apart any further, so I left well alone and just painted over it all - plastic cover and all! (after I superglued up the cracks in the plastic covers)
I'll have another look at one I have on a spare Junior seat tonight and see if I can work anything out.

Andrew, Correct, I'm just replacing the large knob that turns the mechanism. My mechanism is otherwise intact and functional. It took me 3 mos + to find a replacement knob so I don't want to break it installing it onto the turning mechanism tabs.

I suggest that lubrication is the key. Use silicone spray or light oil on the lagre plastic wheel. Fit the wheel in place where the openings allow the wheel to be mounted to the mechanism and then turn the mechanism to one extreeme of the travel. Lastly, use a small flat bladed screw driver to turn the three cam spring clockwise onto the lubricated plastic of the large black wheel. It should not require a lot of pressure to get the metal clip to go progressively into place on the black wheel if all is fit properly.

BTW -- where did you source your black wheel from ?

Sounds like you have an answer. I got a chance to tinker with the other seat I have and it appears that you can turn the 3 tab 'star wheel' relative to the black plastic adjuster wheel, but it is rather stiff on the one I have. Perhaps some lubrication is the answer as suggested...
