Norm86 Veloce, I got the picture from the CarDisc CD which has a lot of different manuals. I've seen other members post similar photos from this too. It's in pdf form. I don't have an original book

Wow, still dwelling on this...If we go back to Uri's first picture, we see the lense is leaning to the left of our screens. The CARELLO letters will be on our right side and the part number to our left. MADE IN ITALY will be on top left. Hope he makes these as I just cracked my brittle old one while inspecting it tonight for this post!!!

I think we will pass up on the alfa part #, he will stamp his own part #. since it's not gonna be all marked like the original it won't matter. we will keep the "MADE IN ITALY" and the font (his make, not CARELLO). Is there a notch in the inner lip of the lens? (where the gasket sits), I noticed the sample I have doesn't have one, and I don't have the used anymore.

It's from the US version supplement to the 2000 GTV/Spider Euro parts book (don't recall the publication number off hand).

The Catalogo Rapido manual does not include USA market cars.

Good News

OK, I just got off the phone with Milan, and here is what we're gonna do:

The factory doesn't touch the mold, it will be left smooth.
I found a great solution : Laser Etching! I am able to reproduce all markings now.

Today I went to a local factory that does incisions and CNC, they also have a laser machine. I asked for a sample and they etched the number "16" on the lens. This is going to look great done from the BACK side. It'll look original enough, as I intend to do the "CARELLO" in outline.

Another nice thing about the Laser Incision is that it adds only $2.00 to the cost of each lens, two bucks very well spent for what we are looking for.

I made a picture in photoshop to give you guys an idea on how it's gonna look. I'm quite excited about this, when I got off the phone just now they were going to load up the machine and start the first batch!

This is about as good as I could do and from nearly the same year & model because I was going to check my 73 GTV 2000 tomorrow. One thing to note that I forgot to point out before - one screw pilot is straight and the other is at an angle. The angle is very important in that it is GI proof and will only fit one way because the screw holes in the assembly match the lens or vice versa, i.e. one is straight and the other angled. When making your repros, don't overlook this detail.

I hope you make alot of those white rubber gaskets as there should be a huge demand for them, and sold in pairs. See if you can upgrade the quality of the rubber to have more neoprene or something to add some life to them. Thank you for making the effort!

I'll definitely buy a set of these. Mine are certainly showing the signs of age, and the worst part is that they have aged unevenly so one is more orange than the other. Nice work!

Nice work. It's great to have people working on things like this.

Since they are comming from Italy with no markings, will we have the option of buying them as is? I'm not particularly concerned with the part numbers. A smooth lense would be nice.

Thanks

I suppose I could keep a few pairs without markings, as I'm sending the lot as a batch to be engraved once I get them.

BTW: I'd like to supply them with new screws, anyone could send me a used screw so I could see what kind it is? are they both the same?

*BUMP*

Small update: First batch of lenses is off the machine and on it's way. I've also sourced out the white rubber profile and they will be supplied with. As for price nothing is set yet but it WILL be lower than what is asked for the resin repro lenses.
