Alfa 'testa rossa'

Every now and then I see or hear about cars with either polished or coloured cam covers. How is the colouring done? Is it some form of heat resistant powder coating and is it specially bonded to the alloy somehow? Has anyone on the BB had it done to the cam covers on their cars?
Chris

Because the cam covers are Aluminum, there are several ways to do this. You can paint them with high temp paint, powdercoat it, or polish and anodize it (never seen it done, but its possible.) The one I have on the car is painted with gloss black high temp paint, I have another that I am going to polish.

This thread alone up in the 'picture room' section has 14 pages of photos showing everything from paint, to polish, to powdercoat and about every other variation on the theme.

Nice photos - I guess I was more interested in the actual nuts and bolts of how it it done. You know, what preparation needs to be done to the metal etc. etc., or I guess I could just take it to the powder coating dude and say 'red please, crackle finish' and remain none the wiser. Alternatively, I could ask the powder coating guy what they actually do.
Regards,
Chris
