Heater/Heater box removal

I've got my 1973 GT body TOTALLY disassembled (down to being a rolling chassis) except for the heater and piece of carpet over the trans tunnel because the heater sits tightly on the carpet. Hate to admit it, but I can't figure how the heater mounts. Since I'm refurbishing everything else on the car, I want to go through the heater also. Appreciate your help with my dilema.

Hi,
It's really pretty easy...There are 4 studs that have 8mm nuts on them and they secure the heater assy. Just get on your back under dash with a light and look up on each side and you will see them (2 per side) . There have ground wires attd. to the driver side forward one. the air intake part of the assy. is usually stuck a bit so use a but of force to release it after the 4 nuts are off.

I had looked and looked for fasteners, but from my hands and knees looking upward. Got on my back like you suggested, looked up... and there they were! Hope my wife doesn't see this thread. I keep telling her I am brilliant; if she reads this she'll find out I'm really not.

If it is a tight fit as you suggest, you might, as with a Spider, have to remove the lower fan box first. Take the 4 spring "c" clips off, remove the fan box to the passenger side and carefully remove the fan wire. The upper heater core box will then slide out. Do a search for "heater" as I and others have posted several threads recently and have learned a lot.

Thanks for the offer of your checklist. Please send it to dnrlombardi@aol.com. This is my first Alfa. A friend who vintage races Alfas was going to make it his next race car. Totally rust free Arizona car. He rebuilt the engine and suspension, stripped the entire body of paint and pieces and his progress stopped. Cars have always been my hobby so it's a great deal for me. I'm sure you know what the acronym ALFA stands for. Notice my last name in email address. I had to have an Alfa.
