Alfa Intake Manifolds on a 1300

My search for a early GT has successfully ended with a 1969 GT 1300 Jr originally from Monaco (remember the red one on Ebay in Florida, then Georgia).

I am planning to convert to programmable engine management but I need clarification on the differences between Alfa's motors. I have searched for this info but I couldn't find what I was looking for.

Will the SPICA intake manifolds from a 1750 or 2000 engine fit on my 1300? What about the Bosch L-Jetronic manifolds from the spiders?

Thanks for the help.

The 1750 Spica manifold would fit very nicely. The port size is very similar. The 2L will be too big for the 1300.

Thanks for the info.

What I would also like to know is will the 1750 SPICA manifold bolt-on to the 1300 head without modification and are the ports different? I don't understand the difference between the 1300, 1600, 1750 and 2000 engine other than difference bore and stroke. (I am really knowledgeable with Volvos but they make it easy with a lot of interchangeable parts.)

Thanks again,

absolutvolvo

Just checked a 1300 manifold against a 1750 ( not spica ) and they are the same apart from the port size which is substantially bigger on the 1750, in the longest part of the oval about 5-6mm. I too have a long history with Volvo's of the sixties variety and the old Alfa's don't have the same flexibility with parts between models and even years they are just as easy to work on and if you count how much lighter a lot of bits are they are easier to work on.
The Alfa motors have different blocks and crank spacing , flywheels etc but other parts do fit on, sumps all seem to be the same fior instance.
Ciao
Hans

Alfas also have a lot of interchangeable parts; the main external difference between the different Alfa engine sizes is block height.

The Spica and Weber manifolds are absolutely interchangeable; taking note of the port sizes mentioned by 1166. They use the same gasket; two of the studs need to be changed to different lengths, and the bypass hose to the water pump is different.

Two problem areas are:
- the link from the pedal to the throttles is by a cable above the manifold instead of a lever underneath the manifold, calling for a different pedal assembly and a support on the firewall;
- the Spica airbox is bulkier than the various Weber airboxes. On a US spec GTV or Spider, the inner fender is indented to clear the airbox.

Send me a PM with your e-mail, I will put you in contact with another canadian Alfisti who has built a throttle body around a Weber manifold to be used on his Spider junior. Such a manifold would definitely be an easier fit on your car. We are currently discussing Megasquirting our Alfas.

The Bosch manifold is generally regarded as fairly restrictive, although it could be OK for a 1300. The 2000 head used on Bosch injected cars is said to be different, so I'm not abolutely sure the manifold would fit your 1300, and I would bet the ports are way too big.
