I think the solution with a programable map Via USB for the 123 system solves all the issues (As mentioned by Richard on pg 4). Please let us know when it is avaliable, as I for one will buy one immediatley - it solves the valid points that Max rasied regarding the duplication of curves and also the secrecy about the 16 curves in the system

PS is it planned to have 16 different curves that can be user programmed in the USB version ? If not at least 3 or 4 should be user programable.

Hi Alfafans,
maybe i do not understand your problems with setting the igitionpoint.
About half year ago my garage installed me a small box and programmed this on the motortester. I still have a original distributor, where they only changed something.
I the end i had more power and the whole engine feels much more aggressive; also ideling is better.
Also the price was not so much. Why you have to change the whole disrubutor, when you can solve the problem with a small box?

Christian, maybe the garage installed a condenser on the side of the distributor to help? If you have electronic ignition, maybe they put in a new "brain"? We need more details.

I had one on my GTV that I sold last year. It was installed by the PO. The car had some idle issues that I think may have been partly due to a lot of ignition advance at low rpm. Otherwise, I had no problems with it.

I have an old Allison unit with a Marelli distributor for it sitting in a box at my house. I have never run it on an engine. Anyone have any idea how/where it compares to these various curves?

The standard Marelli curves are published. Shankle and maybe other vendors re-curved them by modifying the centrifugal mechanism.
Take a look at the Marelli model number. You may find the curve for it in one of Papajam's posts. The old Shankle catalog shows several of them.

The weights from the distributer are fixed, that they can not move anymore.
Then they connect the installed electronicbox with the computer and can program the advance however you want. On the motortester (dynojet) you can see how the engine reacts. At the end you have at every range the best possible result. I only know that the engine feels so much better and you even can see it on the diagramms before and after.

If you're a bit of a DIY'er and don't mind the non-original look, I think this unit, combined with a Ford EDIS module is pretty trick.

Price is good, but then you'll put a fair time into installing it.

I had one fitted last week to my Euro 2000GTV. I had a flat spot < 2000RPM and advancing enough to cure that caused over-advance at high revs. The distributor was incorrect for the car, from an Alfetta apparently, so there seemed no point (no pun intended) fitting Pertronix etc. FWIW I fitted new leads and a new standard coil at the same time. 123 reccommend a new coil unless you are really sure the old is one has never been cooked.

Outome: she now starts very well, maybe taking up to 3 quick attempts with minimal choke, and is much smoother all round.the torque < 2000 is still a little weak but much better driveability ie I can blip the throttle to DDC into 2nd (lack of proverbial synchro!), and I may try a tiny bit more advance say 1deg. and will also ask supplier for another curve (other than 'A') which has same max. advance but a little more aggressive at low revs. (BTW anyone know the answer to that?).

Curve "A" is very slow. I suggest that you try Curve "1". I am currently running that curve. The Shankle curve is a bit more aggressive and gives good fuel consumption, but watch out for pinging around 3000 rpm. I have run all three curves with 36 degrees full advance and "1" at 38 and 40 degrees.
