Got a question. What is your body man doing about the rusted cowl under the front windshield?

Thanks
Steve

FMD:

I'm curious: What prompted you to replace so much of the sheet metal? Originally you said that the car was really straight with little rust. Did you end up finding "surprises" once you got the paint off? These cars sometimes feel more like an archaeological dig then a restoration...

The work that you have done so far looks fabulous. Hope things continue to progress...

yes...structurally the car is really straight with little rust hence no major structural repairs required as illustrated in the boot floor work, the boot lid, floor pan patching work and cross members in the engine bay area.....

....the "surprises" I found was in the sheet metal and it wasnt rust!!! It had some very bad repair work in the past...This also goes for the sill....bad repair work

...therefore the common option would have been to repair to try and undo this...but I opted to replace the panels to keep the labour costs down from the panel beaters persepctive..and also to have the piece of mind that there will be minimum bogg and end up with a far more superior result.

I want it to last a few generations after me...!

Note that you'll have a lot of fun trying to put new seals back onto the inner wheelarch splash panels...I gave up and bought new aluminium ones after mucking about with mine for some time...hope you have an industrial strength stapler or some other fixing method!
