Talk to vince sharp in melbourne - vsharp@hotkey.net.au
Might even be best to send him down your entire head as that's what he does best....
He's also on the board here as vsharp

Ok I just took a look online, if a set of standard Borgo or mondial piston kit costs you about 250 quid (about 900 AUD which is what I paid) than a set of high compression(11.1) race pistons from classic alfa will set you back 545 quid and as for competition conrods you are looking at 745 quid a set.

I`ve heard good things about Vince Sharp at Pace Engineering. I believe he can supply oversized pistons. vsharp@hotkey.net.au . I want to do something similar to you with a 2 litre engine so I`ll be watching so see how you go.

1969 GTV restoration

My 1969 RHD GTV alspo has a VG Hellebore wood rimmed wheel which I understand is original. It was also restored to the original paint colour of Giallo Ochra before I bought it in 2006 having had an "unhappy" period in red. There is no doubt that Giallo Ochra is a great colour and suits the car superbly. Don't even think of changing it!

The Journey Begins

Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to my girl....I got a call from the panel beater today, who has started the first striptease of my lady and we had some surprises...but nothing too frightening....I think it being indoors under a blanket for 15 years has saved her and we have an opportunity to correct the dodgy work of the last person who touch her body...

For some reason...there is this pink filler all over and my man is in the process of painstakingly applying heat gun and removing!!

One dissapointing discovery is that the boot lid has been re-skinned and there is no provision for badge placement for logo or boot script...!!

Yes that isnt rust inside her thats the deadner felt which looks like rust...

Here we go with her clothes starting to come off:

.....best you listen to her...

I must say I was expecting worse....there doesnt appear to be much in the way of panels corroded away...just some very bad past repair work and someone has gone loose and spread filler all over the place; on top of a layer of paint which is now thankfully just peeling away with the heat gun!!

It seems that any rust has been hacked out and the panel not repaired properly.

She has revelaed a secret where it has been in an accident and repaired in at the rear

its coming along slowly but nicely....finished gerabox rebuild, replaced synchros, bearings etc.....now working on the differential...limited slip diff conversion...

In the mean time I have been sorucing parts locally in Australia, Germany and USA because the aussie dollar is so strong with the USD has been great to trade in. I have been slowly stock piling, recording inventory for all the bits and pieces I need....latest edition is the SACHS clutch kit, new toggle switches, rubber grommet kits out of Germany from Gabbi at Alfa Service....I had shipped in from the US a set of Weber DCOE 45's from Steve at Top End Performance in California ( a pleasure to deal with and the product is fantastic!!). I scored some awesome NOS original Carello outer and inner headlight/high beam lenses on the weekend...from Milano spares in Melbourne...

I have rechromed all chrome pieces from the rims and housing for instrumentation, the gearshift rod, to handbrake rod and the outer door handles, headlight / tail light trims...all the chrome work looks awsome!!

Body wise, its been a little slow, but suits me perfectly....I have sent all the appropriate repair panels to my panel guy and he is doing a magnificent job, a work of art....!!!!

I have been meaning to get to the panel shop to check the progress and update my photos...hopefully this week I will sneak out of work and pay a visit and upload te photos.

Who have been terrible to deal with...Apologies in advance for the negativity, but at least you now have been warned

AlfaBBer Targa Florio!! From my experince with him, I suggest you dont deal with him, when it comes to the business of parts....he has been stringing me around for some time...he claims to manufacture the double axle straps for 105, and to provide me the double axle straps, he lists them on ebay, took my money but in fact does not have any in stock and could not deliver...he has been stringing me along for a couple of weeks and has no integrity in business - complete waste of time...and as I have promised I have now expressed my treatment by this guy as a warning to others in this forum....

Next...back to a more constructive and positive notes:

1. sending off electrical loom to be completely refreshed, tested and redone
2. converting the fuse gang box with a modern fuse setup....
3. Re-upholserting interor with new leather
4. Now that I have the clutch kit, I can continue to have the engine/crank shaft machined and balance.
5. machine the engine head to suit new stainless steel valves and kit.
6. Polish up cam cover....
7. With the arrival of heater valve I can assemble to blower heater box.
8. With the arrival of the chrome trim surrounds for my odmoneter/tachometer and centre console gauges I can get the instrumentation re-calibrated and sealed up.
9. With the arrival of my chrome pieces and toggle switches, I can re-assemble the dashboard and all sub components.

hello guys...its been a long break. i have learnt that in the restoration world, it is a completely different world where project plans and schedules do not exist and even the language is different e.g. next week means 4 weeks in some trades language...!!

Is all good fun all the same though

Anyway after a long break I have managed to conitnue stock piling the pieces that I need. I will have more photos after my visit tomorrow at the panel shop.

Body wise I have replaced all the serious panels with new ones - imported the complete front and rear panels , doorskins and wheel arch repair panels from Classic Alfa in the UK . But I was told today that I need to get an outer sill as well for the RHS.

I am 5 - 6 weeks away from the outer bodywork being in primer and the engine bay and under carriage completed and ready to take delivery of the engine / g box / differential and suspension. Therefore it dawned on me that these bits better be ready in time!!

So what do I need to have ready for assembly in 5 weeks:

1. All the brake lines renewed (need to get order in)
2. Fuel line renewed (need to get order in)
3. Loom renewed (need to get order in)
4. Engine / gbox and diff completed (engine / head /diff in progress - still!!!)
5. Suspension arms back from powder coating and all new bushing in place
6. Steering box renewed
7. All chrome an s/s coated and polished ready for re-assembly
8. Headlining ready to be fitted so I can then assemble items 7 along with glass.
9. Glass

Im just a little stressed right now!

ANyone got any headlining contacts?
