Guys I have a question regarding metals, chroming and light bulbs...I received my rear light assemblies back and they have been re-threaded and ready to be sent off together with a box load of other pieces to be chromed.
My concern is should I remove the x4 light bulb bayonet housing before I send them off to be chromed or can I just chrome the whole lot? I would like to avoid removing the bayonet housing unless I have to so does anyone know if the chrome plating will have an effect on the operation of light bulbs??
Below are the light assemblies showing the bayonet light bulb housings that I am referring to.

Hi FMD,
The light bulbs typically have the positive at the base (at the very tip of the bulb) and the negative is the cylinder that either screws in or in this case has the bayonet lugs.
If you chrome the entire fitting you'll be joining the positive and negative. Don't do it. I'm pretty sure a good chromer will not do it anyway since they'd have different materials and the chrome won't stick.
You'll have to take out the bayonets. You can still have the surround chromed, but not as a complete assembly.

Those housings are easy to replace. I tracked down an electrical short in my right front blinker (Carello) to a corroded housing. I pried it out, took it to the nearest auto parts store and they were able to match it perfectly.

Hi FMD, have a look here, is this what youre after? I think someone on the BB recommended the company.
http://www.reoriginals.iinet.net.au/alfafr.html.
B0346XB
Edging for console wood and gearshift lever base decoration, original chromed plastic, easier to work than the stainless steel.
$12.00
per mt.
B0346X
Edging for console wood, stainless steel, replaces chrome plastic edging that is original to the car.
$18.00
each
good luck
Bill
