Euro 1750 GTV badging
Folks, I am still trying to find out about some details around my GTV. I have not found a good book that has all the details, like Chris Reese's book on Spider restorations (any suggestions?)
Anyway, my GTV is a Eruo 1750.....transition between S1 and S2....It has the Series 2 lights, so I guess I need to ask this question as if it is concerning a Series 2. It has the "1750" script on the back. Also, I can see that the trunk lid at one point in time had two holes for the "Alfa Romeo" logo badge....So, I am guessing it needs that, but not sure. Also, some years had the recessed area for the badge, which years were they? This trunk lid is the version that has the rubber mounted on the trunk lid, as opposed to the trunk opening, if that helps....
Thanks for your advice/pictures

Probably the best start point is if you provide the year and chassis # of your GT.

Hi Peter,
Sorry to say but there is no transition between 1750 Sr.I and Sr.II either it's 1 or 2 and Euro or U.S specs Euro 1750 had never had an Alfa romeo script on the trunk lid also all 1750 Gt Veloce have a golden Quadrifoglio on C-pillar not the green Snake Serpent(specific for GT Veloce 2000 and unificato's model.
Early Gt's had the trunk lid that has the rubber mounted on the trunk lid, but for sure not in Sr.II 1750's all had the rubber mounted on body trunk opening.
One of the best books for GT's is : Alfa Romeo Giulia GT/GTA Coupes

my chassis number is AR1371282, which would indicate an S1. It has standing pedals, S1 seats, etc. But it has S2 bumpers front and back, and S2 lights front and back. Alfa Centro Documentazione told me it was likely a transition model....must have been a very early one, as it was built in September of 1969.....It's a bit of a mystery

Hi
I formerly owned a transition euro 1750 that was transitional the other way around. It was a 1970 model, with small taillights ala S1, plus small side market lights, but an S2 interior with hanging pedals and `71 seats. You see pics of this layout all the time in british car mags, including the oft-photographed 19,000 mile red one owned by Richard Norris of Alfaholics (minus the hanging pedals because the right hand drive cars didnt get them).
It had simply -1750- below the alfa badge on the trunk lid.

The S1 and also S2 have small taillights except the S1 has the different shape for the refelector in it and position. I know youre car Peter and I think it's a S2 with some S1 parts. It also has a 2 liter Alfetta engine as I recall.

could be, but that does not make sense. It was built in September 1969. It has standing pedals and a Series 1 interior....

To expand on this a bit, the S1, depending on date of manufacture, was fitted with three different rear lenses. Up to early 1969, a Carello lens with a long skinny reflector was fitted (the black & white pic here).
In early 1969, the Carello lens was changed to a square reflector (pic here) type. The third lens, also arriving in early 1969, was an Altissimo with a long skinny reflector like the early Carello lens (will take a pic of an Altissimo if need be). As juultje said, the S1 & S2 both have the small taillights; only the 1971 US version got the large, 2000 type taillights.
All 1750s have the trunk seal on the body, not the trunklid.
I researched and posted years ago the recessed badge thing but I think the post was lost in the Great Crash as I've looked for two days and can't find it. I vaguely recall that the recess started with the S2 (our 71 US version is recessed) but either style is correct for the S2 and 2l.

Jim,
Interesting.
My '71 S2 with the big tail lights (2L style) is not recessed.

this is so typical Alfa Romeo.....mixing and matching....transition models....Folks in Milan probably got a chuckle out of this, realizing we would all be scrambling to figure it out years later.....heck, many may be regulars on this board right now and laughing their a** off!

Peter:
My car has the small, square reflector Carello lights, 1750 script and indent w/ round Alfa emblem on the trunk/boot lid. It has hanging pedals and the "modern" interior. I think these cars also had changes in the floorpan from the earler cars.

another wrinkle to this story? What were the floorplan changes? I know the kamm tail spiders had reworke floors from the roundtails.

Well, in the dim recesses of my fevered memory, I see to recall that the late seats and the early seats don't interchange. The later GTV's starting somewhere with the 2nd. series 1750's apparently (said with a little trepidation) had different floor pans, at least with regard to mounting points for the seats. Maybe Papajam knows 'fer sure.
