Turn Signal Relay '69 GTV

I am trying to fix my turn signal relays and need some assistance. They are flashing in rapid succession and you cannot hear the relay working. I removed the faulty relay from under the dash. It is cylindrical and has three contacts though it only used 2. They were wired as follows:

+: red wire from e.flasher switch...from fuse 3.....from constant 12 volt source

L: to turn signal column switch then off to the indicators

What is a good replacement I can get from Advance Auto Parts or Pepboys?

See attached image. Thanks.

Are all your lights working? I have found that my relay acts differently from side to side and I attribute it to my bulbs being burnt out. I have a 71 GTV and the left has just the tailight blinking and the right is missing the small marker up front.

I have yet to fix the bulbs or the relay because I have bigger fish to fry so at this point it is purely conjecture.

All blink rapidly. This usually indicates a faulty relay. Just need to find a replacement from local store.

Have you checked that the lights are earthed correctly? I had just this issue when I was refitting my restored rear light units a couple of years ago ...

Alex.

Alex,

Are you suggesting that an improper ground on a light will cause all to blink in rapid succession? Is this the fault you experienced? Can you describe what you found exactly on your car?

I was refitting the rear lights to the car and experienced rapid blinking, but I seem to remember hearing something switching on and off. I ran a temporary earthing wire from one of the light unit's studs at the back to the trunk torsion bar (I crimped on a crocodile clip to one end) and the problem was solved. About 5 years ago I also ran new earths for all the other lights and could hardly believe how much better everything worked. All you need to do is make sure the body of each light unit is well earthed to the body/chassis. Give it a try - even if this doesn't cure your problem it will be help the wiring loom and keep the cores in better condition. A tell-tale sign of bad earths is blackened copper cores if you strip back a few inches of the insulation.

Alex.

Grounding is good. Did thorough continuity checks and all is well. I just need a replacement turn signal relay but don't know which to get.

I finally found a 2 terminal flasher at Advance Auto Parts. It works fine but it does not have the tab for screw mounting. If anyone knows of a two terminal turn signal relay with the screw tab, please let me know. Many thanks.

A three wire flasher will work as well; just use the 'X' & 'L' terminals, the 'P' terminal will not get used. #536 & 552 flashers come to mind but I don't think that these have a mounting tab.
