74 gtv what would you guys recommend as far AS PERFORMANCE EXHAUSTS FROM HEADERS BACK? SECONDLY I WANT TO CRATE THE MOTOR TO A SKILLED TUNER FOR A COMPLETE REBUILD LOOKING FOR ABOUT 180BHP WHO AND HOW MUCH SHOULD I BUDGET?????

I have a 2 liter engine fresh off the dyno that pulls 173 hp and 151 ft lbs torque on pump gas, with a streetable exhaust. This is the upper limit on pump gas. It idles at 750 rpm, and is as drivable as a stock engine. ( the race gas engines pull 190 HP and 164.5 ft lbs of torque, on the dyno).

The engine comes complete with 45 DCOE Webers, ported head, cams, ignition, aluminum flywheel, clearenced and balanced etc.etc. Bolt it in your car with the header that I'll recommend that works and will fit your chassis. It is set up for the 1969/ 74 throttle cable.

The price is $8000.00 plus freight. Normally exchange.

Is that 173 on the flywheel , or messured on the back wheels ?

Frank , 8000 for a complete rebuild engine is not expensive, here in Sweden one of the top shops charge 13.300 USD for a complete restored and rebuild engine that delivers 190 hp on 98 oct fuel.

But then you have no idle below 1500-2000 rpm :

That is 172 U.S. horsepower at the flywheel, on our 92 octane, with the engine set up as though it were in the car; IE: water pump working, headers with a streetable exhaust system. The dyno is a water absorptive type, and the readings are SAE corrected.

Here are my suggestions:

The Repro GTA exhaust we have at Centerline is quite nice. I have it on my 2 Liter and the difference is quite noticeable. I think it will work best with the GTA headers, though. You have the option of a full exhaust or a side dump that is a bolt-on.

As for engine rebuilders for that kind of power, Rex Chalmers comes to mind. See some examples of his work at: http://www.alfarex.com/. His Standard charge is $1,500 plus parts and machine work for a hi-po or race motor.

The $8,000 figure for George's motor is not unreasonable, though. The parts to build these motors add up fast.
