Where would you send it?

I recently pulled my tranny from my 74 GTV. My car is going through a complete frame up so I pulled the driveline and although the trans seems to shift fine I never got to drive it. I want to make sure the syncro's are good, reseal it and overall replace any problem parts. Since it is not a Ford or Chevy a specialist is needed.

Who should I send it to (I live near Dallas) and what should the cost be? What are the normal problems other than the 2nd gear syncro?

Any good Alfa shop should be able to rebuild it. Does Vick do this kind of thing? I can recommend Glenn Oliveria or Norman Racing in Berkeley, though it's a long way from Dallas. Glenn did my Super's trans for about $500 all in, including new synchros and gaskets. He also did my GTV's, which included lightening 1st and 2nd gears, for about $700 all in. Merritt Carden was the subcontractor on the gear lightening.

I just shipped a transmission (drained) without the bellhousing from MD to Seattle via FedEx for about $45. From TX to CA shouldn't be too bad.

I'd try Shade Tree Enginetrics or Vicks. What ever happened to Basically Italian? I think they were in Irving.
