When did European cars get the side markers? My 69 Canadian GTV and my 69 GTV originally purchased in the Netherlands had no side marker lights - both cars were unmolested.

Mike,

I thought so, too, and contended that on another thread but according to Papajam and the parts books they're supposed to have two-piece armrests. See these threads:
1750 GTV Series 1 Door Trims & Steering Wheel
Door handles etc for s2 1750

So I'm going to restore my two piece armrests. The one-piece ones sure would be easier. (I have both sets)

All of the Euro 105/115 series bertone coupe (1963-76), from the Sprint GT all the way to the 2000GTV, had front side markers EXCEPT for the Sr.1 1750 (1968-early 70).

Yea, I know Karl, I posted in those threads too. All I can tell you is your car & Jim’s car are not the norm. I think the US cars had soft sided armrests to meet some type of impact standard.

Actually the two I parted some years ago both had soft ones like you describe. This one I bought from George Willet came with one of each... But I think it may have '67 doors on it so that could be where one of them came from. Keep talking, you're saving me work on those two-piece ones with every word.
