Is free always a good thing?
I saw a posting on CL that said “free Alfa Romeo”. I called the guy and after speaking to him I determined it might be worth a trailer rental and a three hour drive (one way). This is the result. What do you think, is free a good thing?

I like the way it sits, but it might be a little tail heavy.

It looks like it is all there, somewhere. How many parts can you spot?

Reselling the glass, gearbox and any other usable components is worth "free."

Heck yeah! Admit it, 6 hrs. spent on an endevor like this is more like recreation than work. Sad though, looks like yet another car that has been ruined by a well intentioned "restorer" with an orbital sander. Or did the paint just fall off the car on its own?

Man, there are guys up north and on the right coast that would love to have a body in that good of shape !
I think free is very good in this case as you have a something to work with. Decide to spend lots of $$$ and put her back together, or do an organized inventory and part-out the pieces, or just leave it in the yard and look at it. It really is beautiful yard art. You have choices and can take your time as you have nothing invested.
Way to go! Looking for one like that myself.

At least the rims are in nice shape, I would think someone would want them. Selling them should at least cover the majority of your fuel cost. Lots of parts, suspension bits and drivetrain. Clean them up and inventory them (serial numbers and the such), spread them out on the drive and take plenty of pics. 30 year old parts are hard to pick up at the NAPA. It's an all Alfa yard sale!

I can think of worse things to do with 6 hrs. Hey there are enough spare parts with it that you can keep another one running for years. It could be turned into a race car potentially. If it were me, and I had a place to put it, I'd do it.

LOL - You're right! I paid for my "parts" car here in Connecticut. I would have driven 6 hours one-way to get this one for free I also pay to store it... not something you guys down south or on the left coast need to worry about.

The tranny and engine would be worth the drive. The body...well, it would be a labor of love, at least here on the west coast.

Not free, but...
Spotted a few days on CollectorCarTraderOnline, with some negotiating and a couple GTV guys sharing purchase cost and the spoils, this car looks like could render some good stuff. Anyone on this board own it?

The Free car...heck yeah, the parts can pay for the gas...the engine parts can be used for something. If it is a 1750 you have a score. Car is beyond salvage. Get a better donor and marry the two. After all it is Valentines Day.
