That's too funny. I do some of my work in my driveway on the Alfas and people go by and ask if would like to come up the street and repair their rusty mini van or whatever. They just don't get it, that I'm not crazy.
Ciao

Rossano Hello, what do you use to pull the tubes? What do you do with those holes? What kind of welder do you have?
Sei bravissimo!

My wife sees me out in the garage every chance I get and she says I'm crazy. Crazy to be working on "that stupid car".
And obsessed too...
The weather out here has been holding up well so it's kind of a race to get the many smaller projects done before old man Winter comes to visit.
Well I think She's crazy for even thinking that I'm crazy (eyes and hands twitching uncontrolably ). For those remarks she gets to sit in the back seat when I get my car finished!

My wife is already treating my GTV as the "other woman".

I try not to talk about the GTV with the wifey, and luckily it is nicely tucked up in a garage under covers waiting patiently for its turn. I get sufficient flak about my Giulia Super project that is sitting under covers right outside the back door of the house.
Mostly I get away with it, only to suffer some heat when another part (new or second hand) arrives for both my projects. I always try to diffuse the situation by reminding her about how much we are spending on house rennovations and so hence the delays in finalising my car projects. It sort of works, sometimes
Excellent progress Rossano as ever. Between yours, Petes and Daveys GTVs under restoration it is going to be intriguing to see which is finished first let alone re-assuring how much rust can be overcome.

What's even funnier is that I had a rastaman stop in front of my house to ask if I could give him a quote to fix his beater Honda so that he could take it back to his buddy who offered to do the work for half the estimate!....with pals like that....

Dave...I managed to enlighten my missus with this argument "Honey if I don't focus on the car and get it done ASAP...it'll drag on for another 3 years (or more) and all those house projects that we spoke about last year...OK sweetie?"...plus...."Would you rather I sit around and watch Hockey or Football or reality TV rubbish instead?"

Hence the requirement that everyone needs to talk about the
"plan" ahead of time....better if everyone is on the same page...

Thanks for the support Super1600, but I wouldn't wager a penny to see who'll get there first. Almost all of my estimates have taken 5 times longer than my predictions. All I know is that I'm hoping to get mine done sometime next year...

When my missus starts complaining about a new part or body panel that I've managed to get, I've discovered a new method to appease her and it seems to be working! I tell her that next year is a new year full of company paid holidays and maybe, just maybe, there's another European cruise in the future.
Since I mentioned this idea, she's been maintaining a most admirable demeanor . And like you Super, you have to be able to deflect the assault and then hit 'em in the flank when they least expect it. They'll love you for it!

I love your ideas Davey A year of company holidays and another European vacation. I too reckon I must keep such tactics up the sleeve, as yet another means of deflection.
I recently tried the honey I will take some of my hard earned and saved leave to get work done on the rennovations projects, which was working really well until I came down really sick and was confined to bed/rest for a over a week. I still need to to earn some more browny points so that I too can go and get some car work done.
My brother in law was seriously suggesting to me that I should sell the GTV and simply concentrate on my Super. His reckoning was I had too many projects, on the go. This comes from someone with a serious vintage Ducati habit, too many antiques and a part -time job.
On that note I think I might just go and clean up my "new" radiator overflow bottle for the GTV, given I have done all my house work activities while the missus was off surfin this morning. What do reckon guys a good call. Should take a before and after shot. Each step forward is progress afterall.

Rear side window frames on the GTV is prone to rusting under the chrome trim pieces. Luckily the driver side has but a couple of heavy rust spots.
I decided to remove the welded seal channels on the B pillars so as to get at whatever rust is under there and to facilitate repair at the bottom corner where water seems to get trapped.
Again the spot welds were drilled through and upper/lower ends were cut...channels were only showing mild surface rust. Because the ends of the channels were brazed to the chassis, the residual braze material left cannot be MIG welded over. So I decided to make up new channels instead of trying to remove and patch these old ones.

Window channels removed, rusty areas cut away and new metal welded in.
To create the channels I made a former out of square section solid Aluminum bar and pulled down the material over that.
Didn't take any additional photos of all the repair here...but I also had to patch in new material where the Quadrifoglio emblem is located on the C pillar. You can see I had some slight heat shrinkage here which will have to be addressed with filler at the next stage of bodywork. Hey this side is finished!

Hey Rossano I just wanted to say that I am marveling at the work you are accomplishing. I am just starting work on a '71 that is currently red but that started life in French Blue and I hope to eventually return the car to that color. Thank you for taking the time to document your work!

Hi Gene, thanks for the thumbs up. One suggestion I have for you is to take as many photos as you can during the tear down phase of your restoration. I kick myself now for not having purchased my digital camera before I started taking the interior out because now I wish I had reference photos of all that...especially the carpeting, padding, dash and console. Good luck on yours....why not start a thread as well...it'll help keep you focused when you're not actually working on the car.
